Toyota PH marks 32 years of achievements with a renewed commitment to Filipinos
MANILA: After digitally unveiling a handful of new vehicles, most recent of which was the new Toyota Vios, despite the hardships of the pandemic, Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) renewed its commitment to Filipinos toward the goal of nation-building in line with its 32 years of operations in the country.
During the past few years, TMP team members would typically start the day with a general gathering to recognize its achievers and achievements.
But for this year, TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto announced a virtual assembly of the entire company in compliance with “new normal” safety and health protocols. Okamoto expressed his optimism about the battle against COVID-19. He cited the success of countries such as Thailand and New Zealand in their attempts to mitigate the spread of the virus.
With that, he cited that, from 1988 to June 2020, TMP has placed 1.78 million Toyota vehicles on Philippine highways. TMP currently provides a range of 78 variants and models (from only three initial models in its roster in the beginning). These models include Hiace, Avanza, Rush, Wigo, Fortuner, Hilux, Innova, and Vios. It has also launched an increasing number of hybrid electric cars and a complete array of luxury vehicles under the Lexus brand.
Furthermore, TMP has been a crucial aspect of the industrial and production landscape of the country. It has also been considered as the most favored automobile brand in the Philippines for more than three decades.
In 2019, Toyota concluded the year with its 18th consecutive triple crown (meaning it tops passenger, commercial, and total vehicle sales), which is a testimony to its success as a whole..
At the end of 2019, TMP had provided livelihood opportunities to some 55,000 Filipinos across its supply chain. This has produced a net investment of P64 billion and paid P384 billion in total duties and taxes.
Yearly, TMP produces exports US$1 billion in Philippine-manufactured local components. Since it began its local manufacturing in 1989, TMP has generated around 880,000 units.
TMP is seriously embarking on its transformation into a mobility firm. Along with its 71 dealers across the country, Toyota is becoming a one-stop provider of solutions to meet the increasing mobility needs and demands of Filipinos.
In line with its goal of offering the best vehicle ownership and purchasing experience, TMP has extended its offers and services to include Toyota Certified Used Vehicles, Toyota Insure System, and Toyota Financial Services.
In the aspect of new mobility, the auto company also began providing full-service leases, connected auto loans, and a newly introduced Kinto package, which is the same as a vehicle subscription program.
TMP is currently launching on-demand shuttle services with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and providing fleet management services to selected clients.
In addition, Toyota has upgraded its digitalization plan to meet an apparent and increasing change in customer behavior towards online customer experience.
Recent projects include the new MyToyotaPH application that makes the service scheduling of one’s Toyota vehicle possible via mobile phone, a virtual showroom, and an interesting new Supra GT Cup racing experience in place of the well-recognized Vios Cup.
During the community quarantine, TMP deployed 30 Vios vehicles to the Department of Health and Local Government of Santa Rosa. It also borrowed a fleet of about 50 vehicles for the use of frontliners and other essential workers.
Dealers across the whole country worked closely with communities to donate relief goods amid the COVID-19 pandemic. TMP also commissioned its skilled employees and engineers to manufacture 43,000 masks to be distributed to its own team members, government units, and frontliners.
All of these initiatives are part of the continuous support of TMP to the environment in terms of programs such as the Coastal Clean-up and Mangrove Planting Program; well-being development through its collaboration with the Philippine Paralympic Committee; and education through the TMP School of Technology, among others.
