Toyota Vios: Variants explained
The Vios is the most affordable sedan that Toyota has on offer in the Philippines. In fact, it is the second most affordable car in the entire Toyota line-up after the Wigo hatchback. The Toyota Vios price starts at Php 659,000 for its base model and goes all the way up to Php 1.1 million for the top-end variant.
So what are the differences between all the variants that cause the prices to fluctuate? We try to find out in this story by breaking down each one of them. Following are the nine variants of the Toyota Vios:
1.3 BASE MT
As the name suggests, this is the base variant and available at a price of Php 659,000. Toyota Vios specs say that it is powered by a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder engine which produces 98 hp of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 123 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. This variant comes only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Toyota has taken certain measures to keep the price of this model as low as possible. You get conventional halogen headlamps with no daytime running lights, no front fog lamps, black outside rearview mirrors without integrated turn signals, 14-inch steel wheels, and no body-skirting.
Inside, there is a basic and conventional instrument panel, manual AC, 2DIN audio system, urethane steering wheel, no paddle shifters, rotary starting system, and no driving modes. While Toyota skipped many features on the base model, it didn’t compromise on safety. Even the base model of the Vios gets the exact same safety features as the top-end variant. This is highly commendable. We have a total of seven SRS airbags, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist control, ABS with EBD and brake assist, etc.
1.3 J MT
This variant is pretty much the same as the base model with a few changes been made. The wheels are still of steel but get full caps, instead of the conventional instrument cluster, Toyota has provided its advanced Optitron instrument panel. And that’s about it. For these extra features, you will need to pay Php 685,000.
1.3 E MT
Moving a step above, the 1.3 E MT gets color-keyed outside rearview mirrors and fog lamps. The wheels are upgraded to 15-inch and are made up of alloy. The biggest change on the inside is the inclusion of a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Weblink for iOS/Android and comes with four speakers instead of two. The rest of the car remains the same. This variant costs Php 828,000.
1.3 E CVT
On this variant, everything is exactly the same as it is on the 1.3 E MT model. The only difference is in the transmission. The 5-speed manual gearbox is replaced by a CVT unit which shoots the price of the car to Php 878,000.
1.3 E PRIME MT
Things start to get a bit premium on the outside from this variant onwards. The outside rearview mirrors get a nice piano black finish and you get to see skirting at the front, side, and, rear of the car. There is even a rear spoiler. These additions set the price of the car at Php 883,000.
1.3 E PRIME CVT
Again, this variant is similar to its MT counterpart. The only difference being the CVT unit. Price for this variant is set at Php 933,000.
1.5 G MT
From this point onwards, all the variants get the more powerful 1.5-litre engine which has been tuned to churn out a maximum power of 106 hp at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of peak torque that kicks in at 4,200 rpm. This specific variant comes with the same 5-speed manual transmission.
On the outside, the headlights are not projector-type and LED daytime running lights have also been added. The outside rearview mirrors get integrated turn signals and there is a bit of chrome on the door handles.
Toyota also added LEDs in the tail lights for that added premium-ness. The wheel size is up by an inch to 16-inch and, of course, they are alloys. One thing to note here is that all the body-skirting have been removed, perhaps, to keep the cost in check. On the inside, the total number of speakers is now six. The steering wheel wears leather and also has paddle shifters. There also is an Eco and a Sport drive mode along with a push start/stop button. The 1.5 G MT variant will cost you Php 981,000.
1.5 G CVT
This variant is identical to the previous 1.5 G MT. It just gets a CVT gearbox. Its price crosses the Php 1 million mark.
1.5 G PRIME CVT
The 1.5 G PRIME CVT is the range-topping variant of the Toyota Vios and is priced at Php 1.1 million. It’s very similar to the 1.5 G CVT variant. The only difference is that the front, side, and, rear body-skirting has been added to the sedan.
This was the breakdown of all the Toyota Vios variants. While there are some differences between each variant, one similarity among all of them is that they all are available in 6 different colours - Black, Red Mica Metallic, Freedom White, Blue Grey, Alumina Jade Metallic, and Blackish Red Mica.
