Toyota Vios vs Suzuki Ciaz

Toyota Vios vs Suzuki Ciaz

The Toyota Vios and the Suzuki Ciaz are arguably the two most popular sedans in the Philippines right now. While the former has made a re-entry in the market a few months ago, the latter has been here for quite some time now.

The price range of these sedans is very similar, so, we thought why not do a comparison between the two to find out more about them. Let’s get started.

Exterior

Toyota has done a tremendous job in designing the new Vios. Its features make it look both sporty and elegant at the same time. The main highlighting feature at the front is the pair of huge headlamps. These lights are so big that you literally can’t take your eyes off of them. They look very sporty but also have a touch of elegance when you look at the car as a whole.

Another thing that adds to the sportiness is the blacked-out grille on the bumper. This really helps in the car’s overall appearance. The side profile of the Vios features simple and elegant alloy wheels and a very subtle character line on the doors. Things get really big once again at the rear. The taillights are huge but somehow manage to keep things together without going overboard.

While the Vios tries to impress you with its huge and bold lighting, the Ciaz has its sharp and elegant looks. The halogen projector headlamps are of normal size with a sharp design. They are nicely complemented by the lines on the hood and the sober chrome grille. There’s nothing too fancy going on at the front bumper as well. Perhaps,

it’s the side profile of the Suzuki Ciaz that we like the most. It features gorgeous and elegant alloy wheels that we haven’t seen on any other car of this segment. Then we have two prominent character lines, one of which is sharper than the other. The rear end gets two-part combination tail lights and that’s about it. The Ciaz looks very business-ready, a car that you would like to arrive in at a meeting.

Interior

Some of the exciting interior features on the Toyota Vios specs sheet include Optitron instrument cluster, seven-inch touch screen infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB, and AUX connectivity along with the support for Weblink for iOS and Android for smartphone integration.

There is a good amount of cabin space for all the occupants and the seats feel to be well bolstered offering good support and comfort. The quality of materials used is decent and you won’t find anything to complain about considering the price of the car.

The Ciaz continues to charm everyone with its elegance on the inside as well. Even though the cabin features an all-black theme, it never deters its elegant look and feel. The dashboard is very well laid out, just like things arranged on a meeting table, clean and tidy.

There is a large touch screen display for navigation and audio and it comes with Mirror Link feature for smartphone connectivity. The Ciaz also boasts about its large cabin space and 495-litres boot space. This should be good enough for a short family trip or even a business trip. There are also plenty of bottle storage spaces around the cabin.

Powertrain

There are two engine options available with the Toyota Vios. One is a 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine which produces 98 hp of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 123 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. The second one is a slightly powerful 1.5-litre unit that churns out 106 hp of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. Both the engine options are very refined and smooth and available with either a manual or CVT gearbox.

On the other hand, the Suzuki Ciaz specs have a single engine option only - a 1.4-litre four-cylinder unit that has been tuned to produce 92 hp at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. It comes with multipoint fuel injection technology for crisp throttle response and high fuel efficiency. It is also very smooth. As far as the transmission is concerned, there are both 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic on offer.

Safety equipment

The best thing about the Vios is that it is one of the safest cars in its segment. This has been made possible by providing seven SRS airbags (driver/passenger, side, curtain, and knee), vehicle stability control, hill-start assist control, ABS with EBD and brake assist, seatbelts, child lock protection, and a high mount stop lamp. We’re glad Toyota didn’t compromise on the safety front and has made all these features as standard across all the variants.

On the other hand, the Suzuki Ciaz offers dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, defogger, childproof rear door locks, seatbelts, and an immobiliser. These are standard across all its variants but the safety equipment on Toyota Vios is just much better.

The Toyota Vios price starts at Php 659,000 for the base model and the sedan is available in nine variants and six colors - Black, Red Mica Metallic, Freedom White, Blue Grey, Alumina Jade Metallic, and Blackish Red Mica. Unlike the Vios, the Ciaz comes in 3 variants and gets five colors - Brown, Mineral Grey, Snow White, Super Black Pearl, and Star Silver Metallic. The Suzuki Ciaz price starts at Php 823,000.
