Toyota Wigo: Which variant to buy?
Toyota Wigo has been around for quite some time now and has proved its worth by winning prestigious awards. There are three Toyota Wigo variants available in the Philippines - 1.0 E MT, 1.0 G MT, and the range-topping 1.0 G AT that comes at a price of Php 621,000. So, out of these, which one should you buy? Let us have a discussion on that.
Just like any other car, the Wigo also comes with features that vary from variant to variant. For example, Toyota has kept most of the exterior features standard across all the models of the Wigo. However, since the Wigo is one of the affordable hatchbacks in the country, there are not a lot of features on offer in the first place. Mind you, we don’t mean to disrespect the car, instead, we are just stating the facts. To help you clear your doubts, we are going to explain all the three variants of the Wigo. This should give you an idea about which one would fit your needs.
Toyota Wigo 1.0 E MT
We are starting off with base model wigo 1.0 E MT. The Toyota Wigo price for this variant is Php 547,000. Even though it is the base model, it looks very much similar to the higher-end variants. So, you won’t be missing out on the car’s funky design. It comes with a set of projector headlamps, black radiator grille, body colored outside rearview mirrors, body coloured door handles, and sporty two-piece LED combination tail lights. And yes, there are 14-inch alloy wheels as well. All these were the highlighting features on the outside of the car.
Now let’s jump into the cabin of the car. The first thing that is going to impress you is how spacious the cabin actually is for a car of such compact dimensions. The front seats can be adjusted by sliding & reclining and come with headrests & back pockets. On the other hand, the rear seats are of bench folding type. Upholstery here is done in fabric. For audio, this variant gets a 1-DIN system with AM/FM/MP3/USB/AUX support. There is a three-spoke urethane electronic power steering wheel behind which is a conventional instrument panel. You also get manual AC and a few cubby storage spaces.
As far as the engine is concerned, the Toyota Wigo specs show a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine which has been tuned to churn out a max power of 66 PS at 6,000 rpm and 89 Nm of peak torque that kicks in at 4,400 rpm. The engine seems to be pretty smooth and refined. This model comes with a five-speed manual transmission. In terms of safety equipment, Toyota has kept things to a minimal. There are dual front SRS airbags, ABS, seatbelts, and child lock protection. These come as standard across all the variants.

Toyota Wigo 1.0 G MT
This is the mid-range variant Wigo 1.0 G MT comes at a price of Php 586,000. It is the same as the base model with only a few changes. It gets much better looking 15-inch machine cut alloy wheels, rear spoiler for added sportiness, high mount stop lamp that is integrated into the spoiler and consists of LEDs, and fog lamps at the front.
The interior is enhanced by replacing the 1-DIN audio system with Navi-ready display audio which supports the same connectivity options. Also, the steering wheel has been given mounted audio controls. The outside rearview mirrors can be electronically controlled and there are a couple of additional security features which include an anti-theft system with immobiliser and wireless door lock.
Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT
And finally, the top-end variant Wigo 1.0 G AT. This is exactly the same as the mid-range 1.0 G MT model. The only difference here is the transmission. Instead of the 5-speed manual, this model comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Toyota did this to make sure that the Wigo could also be an option for people who prefer an automatic over a manual.
So, that’s it, guys. We have explained all the variants of the Wigo and we hope you would have found it beneficial. We would advise you to go for the mid-range variant if you don’t mind driving a manual. And if you are an automatic’s person, then you have only one choice here.
