Per NLEX, the additional rates were part of the approved periodic adjustments due in 2019 and 2021. The adjustments were deferred and divided into two tranches to help reduce impact on expressway users — with the initial tranche implemented in May 2023.
From 2018 to 2020, the company conducted several infrastructure and enhancement projects, which include San Fernando northbound exit expansion, Meycauayan northbound and Balintawak southbound drainage enhancements, San Simon and Sta. Rita Bridge retrofitting, Mindanao signalization, Mapulang Lupa Pedestrian/Tricycle Overpass construction, toll system and equipment, roadway lighting and signage upgrade.
For 2024, the toll operator opened the new F. Raymundo Exit in Meycauayan and expanded the Meycauayan northbound exit ramp. It is also set to complete the Candaba Third Viaduct which will widen the five-kilometer bridge from existing three lanes without shoulders to three lanes with inner and outer shoulders per direction.
In addition, NLEX Corporation noted that the construction of two major projects shall commence this year— the first two-kilometer section of the NLEX-C5 link from NLEX Mindanao toll plaza to Quirino Highway in Novaliches (third quarter) and the NLEX San Fernando to Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway Spur in Mabalacat, Pampanga.
