Upcoming MG RX5: What to expect?

With only a day remaining for the commencement of the 2019 Manila International Auto Show, we’re pretty excited about what’s coming. It’s one of the biggest and most important auto shows of the country which will be held from 4th to 7th April at the World Trade Centre in Metro Manila.

It’s being said that this year the footfall at the event will be highest that ever with people expecting to see many latest and upcoming cars from various manufacturers. MG, the British company with a whole lot of experience in making cars, will be showcasing some of its new products that would be launched in the Philippines.

We recently reported about the stock that MG would present at the 2019 MIAS - the RX5 compact SUV, MG 6 fastback sedan, and ZS crossover SUV. In this story, let’s have a look at features that we can expect to see in the upcoming RX 5, a compact SUV that would be appreciated by the Filipinos.

Styling

The MG RX 5 would feature some striking aesthetic elements. We are expecting to see an attractive front fascia. There would be a pair of large headlamps with projector units and integrated LED daytime running lights and turn signals.

The front grille would be quite big and contain a few horizontal slats. Of course, the MG brand logo will be there at the center only. The front bumper would have large intakes and a design to go with the rest of the car.

The side profile of the upcoming MG RX 5 would feature multi-spoke alloy wheels. There would be some designing done on the bottom part of the doors to keep things interesting. The outside rearview mirrors would get integrated side turn signals and be electrically foldable and adjustable. MG would also include roof rails to add a bit of sturdy-look as well.

Moving towards the rear end of the car, we are expecting to see a sporty bumper with a large diffuser and two exhaust pipes. The tail lights would have an LED signature element to them which will help you to identify this car easily. The lights would be joined together by a slim chrome embellishment. MG would also keep a roof-mounted rear spoiler with a stop lamp.

Interior

The upcoming MG RX 5 would get a black and beige interior theme which provides a nice blend of sportiness and premium-ness. The cabin space would be sufficient for accommodating five people with ease. However, we can’t comment on seat comfort and support. For entertainment needs,

there would be a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with an inbuilt navigation system. There might be a chance that MG would include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support as well. The steering wheel would get a sportier control spoke that would make you drive the car more enthusiastically. There would also be a large sunroof.

Engine

It’s being said that the MG RX 5 specs would have two engine options - a 1.5-liter mill that would produce around 160 hp and 250 Nm and would be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, the other engine would be a 2.0-liter unit with around 220 hp and 350 Nm. This would have a 6-speed gearbox. We wouldn’t be surprised if MG would also include an AWD option.

Safety features

The upcoming MG RX 5 would get a plethora of safety features like Electronic Stability Control, ABS with EBD and Electronic Brake Assist, Curve Brake Control (CBC), Stability Control System (SCS), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Start Assist System (HAS), rear camera, etc.

With the new RX 5, the company would try to make an impact in the compact SUV segment. To lure in more buyers, MG would provide attractive color schemes. With all the new features, the MG RX 5 price is expected to be somewhat similar to its rivals, but as of now, there’s no official confirmation about any details.
