Updated Nissan Almera: Changes explained
Nissan has brought an updated model of its highly popular sedan, the Almera in the Philippines. It has been quite a while since the car received a facelift, be it major or minor. Even this one isn’t a huge revamp for that matter.
Nissan didn’t want to add any new ingredients to this already successful recipe. So, to keep things the same as before yet a bit refreshing, a few new elements have been used. Let’s find out about them.
Although we are used to the design of the Nissan Almera, it doesn’t mean it is not a good looking car. It’s just become a bit dated, that’s it. Back in the day, when Nissan first launched the Almera, it was quite a head-turner. Even today, some of its features look pretty cool. For example, the boot lid mounted rear spoiler.
For the 2019 model, the updated Nissan Almera gets no changes on the outside. It will continue to carry itself around with what it has got. However, Nissan has included a few new shades in Almera’s color palette.
Sapphire Blue Metallic, Iridium Metallic Brown, and Lunar Metallic Gray are the new color options that are now available. Apart from these, there are Brilliant Silver, Titanium Grey, Alpine White, and Bluish Black also available. In total there are seven different color options.
The Almera is a long vehicle. It measures 4,425 mm in length. This is one of the reasons for the immense cabin space that we’ve got. The legroom for the rear passengers is great. Also, with the supportive and comfortable seats, the Almera can be used even for longer journeys.
And to improve the overall riding experience, Nissan has now included a new infotainment system in the Almera. It is a large touchscreen unit which adds a more premium feel to the entire cabin. It is a feature that has been missing in the Almera for years now. Of course, it isn’t as advanced and feature-laden as other cars of this segment, but it surely is better than having nothing and gets the job done.
Apart from the new touchscreen infotainment system, there are two USB ports added near the centre console. These ports would allow you to charge your smartphone and other devices that are USB compatible. Also, you can use it to connect your smartphone to play your favourite music.
Another element that we were expecting Nissan would include in the updated Almera was the D-shaped steering wheel. It is the same unit we have seen in the latest Nissan X-Trail. It really looks nice. Unfortunately, Nissan decided not to add it in the new Almera. It might not sound like that big of a deal,
but it would have made a difference, maybe not so in the looks but definitely in the overall driving experience. The new updated Almera isn’t really a major upgrade, and the D-shaped steering wheel would have fitted right in and kept things quiet and subtle, the way Nissan seems to like, at least in this case.
The 2019 Nissan Almera specs continue to have space for the same two engines that we’ve seen in the previous model. There is a 1.2-litre 3-pot unit that churns out 79 PS of max power and 106 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The other engine is a bit more powerful being 1.5-litre in capacity.
It produces 99 PS of peak power and 134 Nm of torque. You can get this along with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission unit. Both the engines have been finely tuned by Nissan to give an optimal mixture of performance and fuel efficiency. The 2019 Nissan Almera price starts at Php 657,000 and the sedan is available in 5 variants.
