KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many Vinfast charging stations are eyed to be put up in Indonesia?

V-Green is eyeing to establish 100,000 charging facilities in Indonesia over the next three years.
  • Where in Indonesia will V-Green initially put up the VinFast EV charging stations?

The VinFast charging stations will be established initially in Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, and surrounding areas.
  • The aforementioned firms have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which advances V-Green’s global thrust to widen the Vietnam-headquarter automotive marque’s EV charging infrastructure.

In a statement, VinFast expressed belief that the initiative also highlights the confidence of other companies in them and V-Green.

Per VinFast, the agreement indicates the intent of the two firms to explore and develop cooperation in building charging stations in Indonesia — with a vision to establish 100,000 VinFast charging stations in Indonesia over the next three years.

The said goal has a projected total investment of as much as $1.2 billion (approximately P70.067 billion).

According to VinFast, V-Green will initially prioritize developing VinFast charging stations in Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, and surrounding areas — adding that the aforementioned locations serve as strategic focus for the company’s expansion in the Indonesian market.

The establishment of VinFast charging stations in Indonesia will commence at the opening month of 2025 — with some eyed to be operational within the year.

Prime Group, a diversified conglomerate with operations across the Middle East and Africa, will leverage on its strong financial potential and global network of partners that will be used to fund the development of the EV charging stations.

Meanwhile, V-Green will conduct research about the market, identify strategic locations, and build and operate a network of charging stations to meet the growing demand of electric vehicle users in Indonesia.

“Leveraging our expertise across various industries, we are proud to partner with V-Green to capitalize on the immense potential of Indonesia's green transportation sector as one of Southeast Asia's most promising markets. We are confident that this collaboration, fueled by V-Green's strong reputation and execution capabilities, will not only benefit both companies but also significantly contribute to the growth of Southeast Asia's electric vehicle market. This partnership with V-Green will take us to explore more opportunities globally, starting with Indonesia then expanding to the Middle East, Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States. Together, we will create exceptional value for society and the global community,” Prime Group Chair Tamer Wagih Salem was quoted as saying.

On the other hand, V-Green Chief Executive Officer Nguyen Thanh Duong expressed confidence in the collaboration with the Prime Group.

"Partnering with a strategic Middle Eastern partner opens up exciting new opportunities for V-Green to expand our global electric vehicle charging network. Together, we will create a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem, reducing environmental impact and enhancing quality of life. This collaboration will yield significant benefits for both our companies, consumers, and the community. Together with VinFast and GSM, we will strongly promote the "For a Green Future" campaign in Indonesia."

To note, V-Green was founded by VinFast Founder Pham Nhat Vuong (with a 90-percent stake) dedicated solely to the EV infrastructure business.

Since it entered the Indonesian market, VinFast has introduced two models: the VF e34 and VF 5. The marque also has broken ground for an assembly plant in Subang, West Java that is eyed to bolster its global production capacity.
