Volkswagen Board of Management, Sits and Discuss Future Course of Action: An Image Clean-up Strategy
MANILA: Scandal is revealed, the mistake is admitted, people have resigned and new ones have been hired. All done, but what only remained was a strategy that preciously outlined VW's future course of action. And now, that too is done. Yesterday, the VW Board of Management along with the new CEO, Dr. Herbert Diess announced major company product decisions.
That included-
- Faster implementation of efficiency program
- Reorientation of diesel strategy with most advanced technologies
- Development of standardized electric architecture
- Electric approach for next generation Phaeton
- Cost-saving methods, with cuts in fixed costs
- Investment to be reduced by 1 billion euros per year
Looks impressive, isn't it. VW looks all focused on improving its all-rotten image due to the latest diesel drama who’s after effects were felt all around the world. Dr. Herbert Diess said, “The Volkswagen brand is repositioning itself for the future. We are becoming more efficient, we are giving our product range and our core technologies a new focus, and we are creating room for forward-looking technologies by speeding up the efficiency program.”
Diesel Strategy unveiled -
According to VW, from now all the diesel machines will be equipped with SCR and AdBlue technologies. Also, they will come coupled to an exhaust emission system that would work on the best green technology.
Development of MQB and MEB Toolkit -
Under these toolkits, major focus will be on development of plug-in hybrids with greater range, 'high-volume electric vehicles with a radius of up to 300 kilometers, a 48-volt power supply system (mild hybrid) as well as highly efficient diesel, petrol and CNG concepts.' As for the MEB concept, it will be multi-brand toolkit that would be suitable for both passenger and commercial vehicles and will 'enable an all-electric range of 250 to 500 kilometers.'
It's all electric for Phaeton -
Phaeton has always been a flagship model for VW, and its next generation too will follow the same path. But with a twist, Phaeton now will be an all-electric car with the long-distance capability, connectivity, and all new connectivity system.
Accelerate the process -
As for the speeding up issues, Dr. Diess said, “Together with my Board of Management colleagues and the entire team we are working at top speed on these issues. Time and again, the Volkswagen team has proved it stands united and is fully focused on shaping the future, particularly when times are tough. We have now laid the further foundations for that.”
That's all for now from the Volkswagen Boardroom, and will inform you about any other development that takes place in the future.
