Volkswagen continues to produce ID.3 despite software issues
Volkswagen revealed its first-ever electric vehicle ID.3 under the company’s ID range at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on a modular MEB platform, the electric hatchback is in production at the firm’s manufacturing plant in Zwickau, Germany.
A recent report of German media speaks about the massive software problems coming across while building the ID.3. Though the exact issue is not disclosed yet, it seems that the software installation going on at this time is not up to the mark and will be updated later on as the automaker decided to continue the production.
The first batch of production includes 10,000 units, and till spring 2020, these will be parked at the large facilities. Meanwhile, the firm is looking to rectify the software issues as soon as possible.
It has clarified that software of the produced vehicles will be fixed manually at the storage places by deploying engineers teams with mobile computer stations there. Till mid-November, more than 35,000 people had booked the electric hatchback across international markets.
Volkswagen ID.3 will be available in three variants- ID.3, ID.3 Plus, ID.3 Max. All the trims house a rear axle-mounted electric motor capable of delivering maximum power of 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque.
The top speed of ID.3 is rated at 160 kmph. The base trim gets a 45kWh battery with a driving range of 330 km on a single charge, ID.3 Plus houses a 58kWh battery pack with a range of 420 km, and the top-spec ID.3 Max equips a 77kWh battery which claims a 550 km driving range on a single charge.
The market launch of Volkswagen’s first EV is expected to occur in mid-2020 in Europe. For updates on the Volkswagen ID.3 launch in the Philippines, stay connected with us.
