Volkswagen Group EV sales grow by 65% in Q1

MANILA: In the first quarter of 2022, the Volkswagen Group was able to effectively continue its global electric offensive, increasing all-electric vehicle sales by 65% year over year. Despite supply shortages for semiconductors and wire harnesses, 99,100 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) were delivered to customers by the end of March, up from 60,000 in the first quarter of the previous year. The most significant rise was in China, where 28,800 customers acquired a BEV from a Group brand, a more than four-fold increase over the previous year.

In terms of BEV sales by region, Europe remained in the lead, with 58,400 units (59% share) delivered in the first three months. The Group delivered 7,900 BEVs to customers in the United States, accounting for 8% of its global BEV deliveries.  China had sold 28,800 BEVs by the end of March, more than four times the number of units sold in the first quarter of 2021. This accounts for 29% of the Group's global BEV sales.

Volkswagen's core brand had sold 53,400 BEVs (54% share) by the end of March. It was followed by Audi with 24,200 units (24% share), Porsche with 9,500 units (10% share), Koda with 8,800 units (9% share), and Seat/Cupra with 2,200 units (2% share).

Volkswagen ID.4 was the Group’s best-selling BEV model in the first quarter, with 30,300 units sold. It was followed by Volkswagen ID.3 with 13,000 units, Audi Q4 e-tron with 10,700 units, Audi e-tron with 10,300 units, and Porsche Taycan with 9,500 units.
