Volkswagen Literally Smokes Its Competitors To Number One Position
MANILA: Toyota had sure quickly capitalised on the opportunity to become global market leaders after their German competitors Volkswagen were deadlocked in the infamous Dieselgate Scandal. Despite their nearly unchallenged stint for almost a year, it’s time for them to go back to being number two. In the recent turn of events, Volkswagen cars outsold their Japanese archrivals by a difference of more than 90,000 units, reemerging as the market leaders. After being almost burned down to the ground in face of allegations regarding the emissions from their Diesel engines, Volkswagen group have risen like a Phoenix to finally realise their dream of becoming number one.
A major portion of this success is certainly due to their high sales in the European market. Starting from January, Volkswagen sales have been a massive 3,361,600 units that overshadowed its equally powerful archrivals such as General Motors and Toyota. A chunk of sales also came from their stronghold in the Chinese market, that remained largely undeterred even when the company’s global demand took a hit last year. Although the demand for their vehicles hasn’t picked up in the US market, it really doesn’t matter as long as the manufacturer achieves its goals. The drop in demand for Toyota and GM brand cars were also instrumental in Volkswagen’s as they suffered more than 5% loss in sales in key markets.
This surely comes off as a big surprise to the autofans as Toyota Motors looked pretty unstoppable when it comes to vehicle sales whether its Japan or Philippines. Although they still maintain the top spot in Asia and Asia Pacific, the European market is certainly a big loss for the Japanese. The decline in demand for their vehicles can also be attributed to their refusal to set up new facilities in the US market. Regardless of all that happened, Volkswagen Motors are certainly on their way to global domination by 2018, as predicted by their company leaders last year. This not only proves to be a moment of respite for the Germans but also makes the Dieselgate look like a smokescreen, while they secretly overtook their competition in this rat race of cars.
