Volkswagen Next-gen Amarok Could be Produced in Asia
MANILA: Carlos Santos, the Volkswagen Australia Director of Commercial Vehicles has stated that the next-gen Amarok could be built in Asia pacific region. Well, the company is considering the Asia-Pacific region because they believe this region has a huge potential of growth or can be said as a next big growth area.
The Volkswagen Amarok is a mid-sized pickup truck which has a turbo heart and a rear wheel or four-wheel drivetrain. Analyzing this step of Volkswagen, it can be said that the decision of next-gen Amarok must have been influenced by seeing the picking trend of pickup segment and how every auto brand is staying busy in taking the already launched vehicles to their next generation.
“It’s definitely on their [Volkswagen Group> agenda. Not necessarily Thailand, but somewhere in the Asian region, because this area — the Asian Pacific area — is one of the next big…well already is, the next big growth area,” Santos said. This raises a question that why not Thailand because according to an agreement with Australia in 2005, all the tariffs associated with importation of manufactured vehicles from Thailand has been eliminated and, therefore, our Amarok could be relatively cheaper.
Santos further added that the next-generation Volkswagen Amarok should debut around 2020 wherein the Volkswagen Australia will play a big role in its development process and expect a positive sales graph in this continent.
