The Volkswagen Passat received 93 percent for adult occupant protection and 87 percent for child occupant protection from Euro NCAP.What is the model lineup of Volkswagen Philippines as of 2024?
As of 2024, the Volkswagen Philippines lineup consists of the Santana, T-Cross, Tharu, Santana GTS, and Lavida. The independent car testing body gave the Passat high-scoring results in the four main vehicle safety categories. For adult occupant protection (AOP), the vehicle received 93 percent. It also received 87 percent for child occupant protection (COP), 83 percent for vulnerable road users, and 80 percent for the safety assist category.
Per Euro NCAP, the tests for AOP and COP primarily consider how the car can shield its occupants from injury in a crash. As such, the test categories involve crash simulations while considering how the vehicle’s body, chassis, and airbags react to impact.
The testing body’s safety assist category, meanwhile, measures the vehicle’s advanced driver assist systems (ADAS), while pedestrian safety takes stock of how a vehicle keeps vulnerable road users safer.
In the two aforementioned categories, the Passat comes with several ADAS features as standard. These technologies include lane keep assist, lane change assist, a road sign recognition system, parking distance control, and adaptive cruise control.
Euro NCAP says the estate car's autonomous emergency braking system can likewise stop when it detects impending collisions with pedestrians and cyclists.
With the aforementioned five-star rating from Euro NCAP, Volkswagen claims that the Passat is now one of the best-rated midsize estate models for 2024.
Previously, the eight-generation version of the Passat entered the local market in 2015 as a midsize sedan. It has since been discontinued following Volkswagen Philippines’ switch to Chinese-made models back in 2018.
At the moment, the Passat version that received top marks from Euro NCAP is not available in the Philippine market. The German marque’s local lineup currently consists of the Santana, T-Cross, Lamando, Tharu, Santana GTS, and Lavida.
