Volkswagen Philippines plans to bring new models in 2019
MANILA: Volkswagen is planning to introduce some new models in the Philippines with the aim to boost sales and attain an impressive year-on-year growth rate. The new vehicles would be launched in 2019 itself.
The German company expected a sales growth of 50 percent last year. However, AC Industrials, Volkswagen Philippines distribution partner in the country, reported sales of 1,363 units, which is a 7 percent increase compared to 2017.
The brand is again bullish this year. The new president Mr. Felipe Estrella III expects a fair 50 percent increase in 2019 to create a better record than last year. Two main things would acquire this growth. First being the AC Industrial’s decision to coordinate overall product strategy with the new president, Mr. Estrella who plans to bring German design and automotive engineering to the people of the Philippines.
The second step would be the addition of two new models in the country that would strengthen the brand’s portfolio from the current seven models to nine by December. Moreover, the company is also said to expand its dealership to 12 by adding four more networks by the end of 2019.
The German automaker has until now brought a few made-in-China models like Lavida, Lamando, Tiguan, and Santana, a move that paid off well in terms of making itself more accessible to the people.
The upcoming SUV, Teramont would be one of the strongest contenders by Volkswagen that would give fierce competition to the likes of Mazda CX-9 and Ford Explorer with advanced MQB platform.
