Volkswagen sells 4.87-M vehicles globally in 2023
MANILA: Volkswagen sold 4.87 million vehicles in 2023, 6.7-percent higher versus its total vehicle sales in the same period last year.

According to Volkswagen, the biggest markets for its all-electric vehicles in 2023 were China, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Norway, and Belgium.The demand for electric vehicles also increased in 2023. The German carmaker delivered around 394,000 fully electric vehicles to customers worldwide, a 21.1-percent increase from 2022.
According to Volkswagen, the biggest markets for its all-electric vehicles in 2023 were China, Germany, the United States (US), the United Kingdom (UK), Sweden, France, Norway, and Belgium.
For instance, around 30,000 ID.4 models were sold in Germany, corresponding to a 62.9-percent increase versus the previous year. In the US, around 38,000 units of the ID.4, up by 84.2 compared to 2022.
In China, more than 75,000 units of the ID.3 all-electric compact car were delivered, a 200 percent increase over the previous year.
The sport utility vehicle (SUV) trend also continued in 2023. The share of SUV in Volkswagen deliveries remained extremely high at 54.2 percent, up by 14.9 percent from 2022. Over 81 percent of Volkswagen vehicles sold in the US were SUVs. The T-Roc continued to be Volkswagen's best-selling SUV in Europe, setting new delivery records in Turkey, Germany, the UK, and Spain.
48 years after its initial introduction, the Polo continued to be among the best-selling vehicles in its class. In Brazil, over 110,000 units of Polo were delivered to customers in 2023, setting a new record. Polo deliveries in Germany were over 33,500, which was 44.1 percent more than the previous year.
“The delivery figures show that we are on the right track as a brand and that our cars are well received by our customers. We expect the market environment to remain challenging in 2024, but with our revised and attractive product portfolio, we are in the right position,” Volkswagen Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales Imelda Labbe stated.
This year, Volkswagen is expecting a significant rise in demand with the new editions of some of its most significant bestsellers, the Passat, the Tiguan, and the T-Cross.
A major update was also recently given to the ID.4 and ID.5, with a new drive system and an entirely new operating concept. This year will also see the release of the ID.7 Tourer, the estate version of the all-electric flagship model.
Another highlight for this year will be the launch of the eight-generation Golf, which offers stunning aesthetic improvements, new assistance and driving technologies, as well as a next-generation infotainment and software.
