Volkswagen shines light on new compact SUV

MANILA: There’s another compact SUV on the way and it’s from Volkswagen.

The German automaker has released a teaser photo of the vehicle and it shows the squarish figure typical of the marque but with more compact dimensions, a couple of burly fenders, roof rails, and a lower ceiling. It has slim headlamps with a light bar along the grille that stops just short of where the logo should be.

Its background is a mountain which suggests that this SUV is capable of doing some off-road work.

Volkswagen says the yet-to-be-named compact SUV will slot right under the Tiguan and is the second proof point of the brand’s doubling-up SUV strategy following the launch of Atlas Cross Sport earlier this year.

The official reveal will take place next month, on October 13.

“We’re excited to share the first glimpse of the newest member of the Volkswagen family. Great things come in small packages, as Volkswagen has proven throughout the years with its iconic Beetle, Golf and Jetta. This next car will be no exception,” said Scott Keogh, president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America.
