Volkswagen to introduce the New Urban Coupe in 2020

MANILA: Come spring 2020, and we will see the first-ever Volkswagen that will be designed and developed in Brazil. Called the New Urban Coupe, the very first Brazilian Volkswagen will also make its way to other markets across the planet following its launch in the South American country. "For the first time in our history we will be offering our very own vehicle concept on the international market, and sharing design, technology, and know-how from Brazil with the world," said Pablo Di Si, President, and CEO of Volkswagen Latin America while speaking about the upcoming model.

Going by the sketch released by the German automaker, the all-new New Urban Coupe is going to be a compact crossover with a five-seater setup. Moreover, the teaser also reveals that the New Urban Concept should come flaunting a sloping nose, long overhang, and a raked rear end. The new model is going to be underpinned by the automaker's MQB platform and might feature a 2,560 mm wheelbase. A 1.6-litre mill that produces 108 hp of maximum power and comes mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox will provide the New Urban Coupe with the necessary power. There could also be another engine option in the form of a 1.0 TSI motor makes 114 hp of maximum power and gets a six-speed automatic only.

The Volkswagen New Urban Coupe is going to be one of the 20 new models that the German automaker is set to launch in Brazil following a 1.5 billion Euro investment in the region. Volkswagen will kick start the production of the New Urban Coupe at the Anchieta plant in Brazil in 2020. Furthermore, the model will then also be produced in Europe for local sales in the continent.
