Volkswagen unveils 3rd-gen Tiguan

MANILA: The third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan made its world premiere on Tuesday.

Featuring an entirely new look, the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan has a cleanly designed front end embellished with the newly developed IQ.Light HD matrix headlights and a glass-covered horizontal strip. With the IQ.Light headlights, 38,400 multi-pixel LEDs illuminate the road and the surrounding environment, enhancing comfort and safety.

Meanwhile, the rear end is given more emphasis with a new horizontal LED strip.

The Tiguan is also designed with a new interior concept, featuring the new Digital Cockpit, a 15-inch infotainment screen, entirely new menu structure and graphics, a new head-up display, and a new multifunction driving experience switch with integrated OLED display.

Comfort is guaranteed by the new ergoActive seats with pneumatic 10-chamber pressure massage function and pneumatic four-way lumbar adjustment. Additionally, there is a programming function for automatic seat heating or ventilation depending on the outside temperature.

The length of the Tiguan has increased by around three centimeters, while height, width, and wheelbase are almost identical from the outgoing model. The latest generation's cargo compartment capacity shows how effectively space has been utilized — even though the SUV is only slightly longer, its cargo compartment capacity has increased by 37 liters (L) to 652L.

Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB evo) allows the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan to accommodate various drive types. The powertrain options for the all-new Tiguan include turbocharged diesel engine, turbocharged petrol engine, mild hybrid turbocharged petrol engine, and plug-in hybrid system.

“The latest evolutionary stage of the MQB evo forms the highly innovative technical basis of the third generation of the Tiguan. Thanks to the large economies of scale of the MQB evo, Volkswagen is once again democratizing numerous high-tech developments such as the DCC Pro or the new hybrid drives with an electric range of about 62 miles and making them available to hundreds of thousands of drivers,” Volkswagen Board Member for Technical Development Kai Grünitz stated.

MQB evo makes the AC charging for the plug-in hybrid variants faster and opens the possibility for a standard fast DC charging.

To ensure safety at all times, the all-new Tiguan comes standard with convenience and assist systems such as side assist, front assist, lane assist, rear view, and dynamic road sign display.

The Tiguan is one of the most popular Volkswagen models globally today. Since its debut in 2007, it has recorded sales of over 7.6 million units. The third-gen Tiguan will be officially launched in the first quarter of 2024.
