Volkswagen unveils ID. GTI Concept

MANILA: The Volkswagen ID. GTI Concept made its world premiere at the recently held IAA Mobility in Munich, Germany, 48 years after the first Golf GTI was introduced at the IAA in Frankfurt.

The Volkswagen ID. GTI Concept adheres to the same design and technological principles as the original GTI. It measures 4,104 millimeters (mm) long, 1,840mm wide, and 1,499mm high, and has a large wheelbase of 2,600mm. It is fitted with 20-inch (in) alloy wheels with 245/35 performance tires.

The two ID. GTI Concept vehicles are painted in the first-generation Golf GTI's colors, Mars Red and Diamond Silver Metallic.

The Volkswagen ID. GTI Concept also sports the most iconic exterior feature of the GTI, the red surround of the gladiator grille. The front of the concept vehicle is also equipped with the IQ.Light LED matrix headlights and an illuminated Volkswagen badge.

At the rear, the Volkswagen ID. GTI Concept is designed with a GTI roof spoiler, tail light clusters, and rear diffuser.

On the inside, the Volkswagen ID. GTI Concept is equipped with a three-spoke steering wheel that comes with an automatic gearbox switch, similar to the ID.77. The golf ball design of the first GTI gear knob was instead adopted by the multifunction GTI Experience Control in the center console, where the driver can switch among different driving profiles and individual looks.

The GTI head-up display on the concept car is meant for both the driver and the front passenger. Relevant vehicle information such as the speed and current range is shown in front of the driver and front passenger in standard driving mode.

There is also a GTI mode that can be activated through a GTI button on the steering wheel. This makes the color of background lighting and all displays transform into the GTI Red Turbo.

The 12.9in infotainment touch display in the Volkswagen ID. GTI Concept features intuitive graphics and menu structure. There are also two large inductive charging interfaces for smartphones, which are magnetically locked. The cabin is also equipped with USB-C ports and a 230-volt socket.

The ergonomically designed sports seats are upholstered in a fabric called Jack-e, a wordplay on “Jacky,” the name used for the fabric in the Golf GTI VI.

The overall interior of the Volkswagen ID. GTI Concept is distinguished by its clear design and intuitive operation. It can seat up to five passengers, while the luggage compartment can accommodate up to 490 liters of cargo.

The Volkswagen ID. GTI Concept is the first electric GTI, delivering maximum power and maximum torque at lightning-fast speed. The driver will be able to modify the driving experience to their liking through the GTI Experience Control, which will allow them to adjust the drive system, running gear, steering, and sound experience.
