During the aforementioned event, Volkswagen employees unveiled a very special Golf decorated with a collage of employee images. This one-of-a-kind model — the brand pointed out — now forms part of the plant’s internal fleet.
The Volkswagen Wolfsburg plant has now produced over 20 million Golf models since 1974. On that note, it has been responsible for manufacturing more than half of all the Golf models built worldwide.
“The Golf is at the heart of the VW brand and has stood for affordable mobility at the highest technical level for half a century. It is the Germans’ favorite car, it has shaped a whole generation, created a new vehicle class, and established itself as an international bestseller in over 70 countries with more than 37 million units sold. We love the Golf!” Volkswagen Chief Executive Officer Thomas Schäfer said.
Currently, the Volkswagen Golf is offered in the United States in two trims: Golf R and Golf GTI.
The former is slapped with an R-tuned engine that puts out 315 horsepower (hp) while the latter makes a still commendable 241-hp power output straight out of the factory.
In Europe, on the other hand, the Volkswagen Golf is listed in four variants: Life, Match, Style, and R-Line.
The base Life trim is available only with an internal combustion engine while those sitting above it in the variant hierarchy can be had with gasoline hybrid powertrains.
In the Philippines, Volkswagen for a brief period. Today, Volkswagen’s lineup in the country consists of models like the T-Cross, Santana, Lavida, Lamando, and Tharu.
