Volvo S60 & V60 Powermills Get Downsized
MANILA: Volvo’s performance division is up to the task after uniting with the Swedish automaker last year as it has blessed the sports sedan, S60 and the groovy sports wagon, 2017 Volvo V60 with a revised downsized 2.0-litre twin-charged power mill ditching the old 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged engine. The power of both the vehicles has been enhanced considerably by reducing the number of cylinders and the displacement capacity, which is a trend these days, Downsizing Technology.
After acquiring the Polestar Performance last year and designated it as the sole entity under Volvo Cars, the division is on the move by bestowing the 2017 S60 and V60 with new 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-charged engine that can churn out a max power output of 367 hp at 6000 rpm alongside a peak torque of 470 Nm between 3100-5100 rpm, which is 17 hp more and 30 Nm less than the older engine version incorporated under the respective hoods of the Volvo cars. Adding to this is the Polestar-optimized 8-speed Geartronic automatic transmission system, which is expected to do wonders with the new engine.
Both the cars are capable of doing a sprint of 100 Kmph in just 4.7 seconds, thanks to its authoritative new engine, light weight structure (optimized by Polestar Performance, shedding off 97 pounds) and by including few performance bits like 20-inch sports alloy wheels, specially designed electronic power steering and 14.6-inches slotted disc brakes.
The Vice President, R&D, Polestar, Mr. Henrik Fries said in a statement, “All changes made to the car are about improving drivability and efficiency. The base of the new engine carries motorsport technology with solutions like the combination of turbo and supercharger, lightweight materials and more. This works hand-in-hand with our core philosophy and has enabled us to evolve the Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar.”
The most exciting announcement made by Volvo was that it will be expanding the number of marketing countries from 13 to 47 while increasing the number of units produced from 750 units to 1500 units. This would certainly bring a wide smile on the faces of all the Volvo enthusiasts around the globe.
