WATCH: 2022 Ford Mustang California Special arrives in Europe

MANILA: Ford introduces the 2022 Mustang California Special in Europe, a special edition model that the carmaker said channels "the spirit of iconic 1968 original" with its unique design details.

Ford released a number of Mustang California Special examples America in 1968. The original version featured a blacked-out grille, fog lights, and a side racing stripes, rear side air scoops, as well as a Shelby-inspired spoiler. 

As for the 2022 Mustang California Special, it comes to Europe as a convertible only and wears a honeycomb front grille finished in Ebony Black, a GT/CS badge in Race Red, as well as lower side stripes finished in black, red, and grey.

The 2022 Mustang California Special is available in nine exterior colors, which include signature Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange. The convertible's black roof folds in eight seconds. 

To highlight its sporty intent, this GT/CS gets a larger front splitter and optional rear side air scoops. Under the hood,  a strut tower brace features a California Special badge.

The 2022 Mustang California Special is underpinned by 19-inch Carbonized Grey alloy wheels. At the rear, a California Special faux filler cap sits above quad tailpipes. 

Inside, the special Mustang's leather seats and door inserts are partly-finished in gray Miko suede, which is made from recycled polyester. Seats and floor mats are embossed with the GT/CS logo, and the instrument panel is finished in Carbon Hex aluminium with a unique Mustang California Special badge.

Under the hood of the 2022 Mustang California Special is a five-liter, V8 engine that produces 450ps and 529Nm of torque. Meanwhile, a selectable "Good Neighbor" mode can lower the exhaust’s noise output at pre-programmed times of the day. 

The engine sends power to the rear wheels through Ford’s six-speed manual transmission featuring rev-matching technology, or 10-speed automatic. Ford claims the muscle car can sprint from zero to 100kph in 4.8 seconds with the manual, and 4.5 seconds for the auto.

For better traction and cornering grip, the 2022 Mustang California Special is equipped with limited-slip differential and an available MagneRide 6 suspension system.

MagneRide monitors road conditions one thousand times per second, and uses an electronically controlled fluid to match the suspension's damping resistance to the road surface.

On the other hand, standard driver assistance technologies including Adaptive Cruise Control with Pre-Collision Assist and Lane Keeping Alert.
