WATCH: Subaru teases all-new XV to be unveiled Sept. 15

MANILA: This month will see the introduction of the new Subaru XV, and this teaser video from the automaker confirms that the crossover will debut on September 15.

The brief video does not reveal much about the 2023 Subaru XV's appearance, but it is clear that the headlamps will be changed from the current model's single, C-shaped portion to two distinct strips with LED DRLs. The tail lamps at the back look to incorporate C-shaped components into their assembly as well.

The third-generation XV's interior has not been seen in this clip, but it is anticipated that it will take design cues from the 2022 WRX, which has an interior that includes an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that is oriented in portrait and has air conditioning controls in the same bezel.

As for powertrain specifications, they have also not yet been made public as well. The second-generation XV was available in Japan with a 1.6-liter gasoline boxer four-cylinder engine that produced 115 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque.

The e-Boxer hybrid, which has a 2.0 liter Atkinson-cycle engine with a 14 PS/65 Nm electric motor and 145 PS/188 Nm of torque as an alternative, comes standard with an all-wheel-drive system with a Lineartronic CVT.

The crossover receives a different engine lineup in the United States, where the XV is known as the Crosstrek. For the American market, the XV receives an 182 horsepower/239 Nm 2.5 liter gasoline engine and a 152 horsepower/195 Nm 2.0 liter gasoline engine. Both boxer four-cylinder engines are coupled to Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive in the typical Subaru manner.

The current Subaru XV here in the Philippines is powered by the two-liter engine. The mill is matched to SI-Drive selectable drive modes, which stands for Sport and Intelligent and whose controls are found in the adjustable steering wheel.

Intelligent drive, which sets driving parameters for maximum fuel efficiency, is active by default. A torque chart on the instruments makes it possible to see how the car's dynamics and throttle dynamics alter when it is in Sport mode. A switch on the center console near the shifter activates X-Mode for extra off-roading capability on those annoying dirt roads.

Apart from the standard airbags and anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, the current Subaru XV is equipped with EyeSight. This includes Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection, Reverse Automatic Braking, Front Collision Mitigation and alerts, Superview Around Recognition 360 System, Brake Override, Auto Vehicle Hold, as well as Adaptive Cruise Control which uses cameras and radars to detect lane markings and other cars around the vehicles.

The third-generation Subaru XV is likely to improve on the notable features of its predecessor.
