How to be an Eco-friendly Driver?

MANILA: What is the best way to reduce carbon footprints, emitting from your car? Do not use it! Well, that is not entirely possible until scientists figure out a technology to transport humans from A to B, using teleportation or make hydrogen power vehicle a reality. Why wait for such distant dreams to come true when we already have hybrid cars. But does hybrid vehicle guarantees an end of all emissions from motor vehicle's usage, manufacturing, and transportation? How about you tell us, which car is more environment-friendly – a Toyota Prius or a Hummer H3? Toyota Prius isn't it obvious, the Hummer H3 is a gas guzzler which gulps on fuel like a hungry kid. But you would be shocked when we tell you that Hummer h3 is more eco-friendly than Toyota Prius. Yes, Prius the quintessential green car, have been ruling the Asian roads, but there is more that what meets the eye. Research reveal that Toyota Prius is one of the main source of air pollution in western states. Reason being, this ultimate green car takes more combined energy to produce and transport 1 car than it does to produce and transport 1 Hummer H3. So, how can one be considerate towards our environment, and still drive? You can, by just following these quick and easy tips by CarBay, that not only help you save fuel but also makes you a key performer in conserving the environment.

Periodic Vehicle Servicing:

At CarBay, we strongly recommend to always keep your car well-maintained and ensure you get your ride serviced at least once a year. Not just cleaning it from the outside, your car should go through a thorough session including getting all internal parts and components fixed. Ensure you take your car to an authorised service center for a full checkup. Changing your car's oil and cleaning all air and oil filters regularly is a must. Also ensures that you replace the important engine parts with time, keeping your engine hearty by sticking to prescribed manufacturer's maintenance. Poorly maintained car gulps fuel voraciously and also emits harmful gasses, which not only deplete the environment but also drills a hole in your wallet.

Maintain Tire Pressure:

We often ignore our car tire's maintenance, until there is a huge drop of pressure or a technical light goes on, or the tyre looks really deflated. Optimal tire pressure, influences your car's fuel efficiency, driving performance and also safety. Driving the car at an increased or reduced tire pressure than the recommended level, results in an uneven tear, in result accelerating your car's fuel intake. Statistics shows that, if your tire in under-inflated even by just 1 psi it can decrease car's fuel efficiency by 3 percent. Driving on under-inflated tires increase contact between tire and road and driving a car with over-inflated tires loses the grip of the car on the road. In both the cases fuel consumption increases. Therefore, we strongly advise to always maintain recommended tire pressure.

Use high-quality oil:

Using cheap quality oil may not create a complication, initially but in the later stages will prove as a very wrong decision for your car. Never compromise with the oil's quality to save few bucks, it can permanently damage your car's engine, drilling a bigger hole in your pocket. Before adding any fluid to your car, always refer the car's manual and list the correct viscosity grade that is required for your car. Apart from using the premium quality of oil, you can also use fuel additives to enhance the fuel and its efficiency. These fuel supplements escalate car's acceleration, its engine performance and most of all delivers better fuel efficiency. If your car doesn't instruct of any fuel additives, you can still use one and see great results.

Check Carbon Emissions:

Carbon Emissions releasing from car is one of the main sources of air pollution and research reveals that due to an all-time increase of cars around the globe, carbon footprints has also increased and has reached an alarming level. Whether your car is new or old, consider having a carbon emission test once in a year. This could point out if your engine is having trouble combusting fuel or if it has parts that need to be repaired. Lowering carbon emissions can also help improve the Green House effect that our planet is currently experiencing.

Practice Eco-friendly driving:

This is a no-brainer and creates a great impact in saving the environment. Minimalistic changes in your driving style can bring a significant change in the environment. By tweaking your driving style and being more considerate towards saving fuel, you can play a major part in this mission. Avoid idling when stuck in traffic or waiting for the light to clear. Instead of gunning the engine off the light, increase speed slowly and brake the same way when possible. Avoid using air-conditioning when not necessary, air conditioners are fuel-chomping monsters that increase your car's fuel consumption. Stick to the prescribed speed limits, driving your car at a high speed every day increases fuel consumption. The aerodynamic resistance escalates in high speeds and at a faster speed of 100 or 150Km/H, the fuel consumption will be far greater than at a nominal speed. Also, if you are traveling along with your friends or neighbors, carpool instead.
