2018 Yamaha YZF-R3 revealed

MANILA: The Japanese bike maker, Yamaha has recently revealed the updated YZF-R3 with new colour schemes and minor tech upgrades. The 2018 Yamaha YZF-R3 will first go on sale in the US market in February 2018. The updated version will also make the local market debut soon. Apart from the color upgrades, the bike is now compliant with Euro-IV emission standards with a majority of styling elements are kept intact.

In terms of equipment, the instrument cluster is unchanged which reflects the information like current and average fuel economy along with other standard information about the ride. Considering the power unit of the bike, it is a 321cc, parallel-twin, four-valve engine that delivers a maximum power output of 41.9 hp at 10,750 rpm and peak torque of 29.6 Nm at 9,000 rpm. The engine is further mated to a six-speed gearbox. The bike will be offered with or without ABS in the US market.

Let’s see if the Philippines market will be offered in single or multiple variants. Suspension duties are handled by 41mm Kayaba forks at the front and preload-adjustable shock at the rear. YZF-R3 misses on the USD forks, which are found in the models within a lower price range. The front has a 110/70 R17 tyres while the rear features 140/70/ R17. The overall kerb weight of the bike measures 166.9 kg (without ABS) and 170 kg (with ABS).

As the 2018 YZF-R3 lacks major updates in terms of design and performance, it will be interesting to see how it take on the likes of its competitors in the global market.
