Harley Davidson trademarks the name ‘H-D Revelation’ for electric motorcycle engines
MANILA: Harley Davidson, the US-based motorcycle manufactured, has filed a trademark application for the name “H-D Revelation” with the Patent and Trademark Office for batteries, chargers, and motorcycle powertrains of United States. The application mentions that the name can be used for motorcycle engines and electric drives for vehicles, among other products, which is enough for us to take a hint. It’s safe to assume that the name could be used for the family of engines to be used on the upcoming electrical motorcycles from the company.
Do not expect the name “H-D Revelation” to be used for the models as the company has a history of using different names for motorcycles and their engines. For example, the engine powering the V-Rod lineup is called ‘Revolution’, while the entry-level Street line-up is powered by the ‘Revolution X’ engine. Similarly, Harley has named the engine family powering the Sportster lineup as ‘Evolution’.
Moreover, Harley has also trademarked the names ‘48X’, ‘Bronx’ and ‘Pan America’ recently, but there’s no way to establish a relationship to take a hint that any of these names can be used for the upcoming electric motorcycles.
Harley Davidson has been working on an electric prototype motorcycle for long called the ‘Project LiveWire’. Unlike the regular Harley motorcycles that flaunt a cruiser look, the prototype carries a sporty design. Standing true to its electrical nature, the bike looks futuristic with LED headlight and taillight, naked chassis and a digital instrument console.
The Livewire concept is powered by a three-phase electric motor, which can produce 75 PS of power against 71 Nm of torque. It can run 80 kms on a single charge, which might sound disappointing considering other manufacturers are coming up with a better range, even for four wheelers. However, it’s just a prototype and we expect the range to get a lot better in the production model.
