New generation Italjet Dragster unveiled at EICMA 2019, to reach PH soon
MANILA: The new generation Italjet Dragster is a radically designed Italian scooter and it’s coming to the Philippines in the first quarter of 2020.
The 2020 Italjet Dragster which was unveiled at the recently concluded EICMA 2019 show in Milan, Italy was a true stunner. The unique design features stayed true to the original styling concept with an exposed frame, engine, and suspension.
The new model comes with an exposed trellis frame with aluminum diecast plates painted either red or yellow, a hub front suspension set-up with a horizontal, adjustable shock instead of a traditional fork design, patented Independent Steering System (ISS),
and standard front and rear disc brakes (with a combined braking system for the 125cc variant and ABS-equipped front brakes for the 200cc). The 30.3-inch seat height of the scooter is something that no average height Pinoy bikers would be worried about.
The first-generation of the Dragster was released way back in the ’90s and early ’00s which quickly generated a cult following because of its unconventional styling and lightweight design. in fact, Italjet was best known for the quirky-looking scooter with a hub center steering.
With the tag line on their website “We are not joking!,” the new model of the Italian made scooter will be available in two Euro-4 engine variants: 125 cc and 200 cc which guarantees that the bike will have sporty performance and a high-revving nature.
The 125 cc version will be powered by a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that can generate a maximum of 14.7 Hp of power at 10,000 rpm with a maximum of 12.5 Nm of torque at 7,750 rpm. The 200 cc variant, on the other hand, will be powered by a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, four-valve, DOHC engine that can pull out 19.8 Hp of maximum power at 8,250 rpm and 17 Nm of peak torque at 6,250 rpm.
According to Ted Alberto of Access Plus—the Philippine distributor for Ducati and Italjet scooters, expect the 2020 Italjet Dragster to reach the Philippine shores by March 2020. He also added that the 2020 Italjet Dragster will come straight from Italy and not in some manufacturing facilities in Asia. With that said, expect the all-new 2020 Italjet Dragster to come with a premium price tag. For comparison, the first Dragsters sold in 2018 were priced at the Php 200,000 mark.
