Podcast documents 20K-km Harley-Davidson LiveWire adventure
MANILA: Harley-Davidson has presented its LiveWire model, an exciting electric motorcycle that pushes the limits of design, technology, and performance.
Its high-voltage battery provides 235 km of city range or 152 km of combined stop-and-go and highway motoring.
Harley-Davidson used an unprecedented 20,921-kilometer off-road trek to demonstrate the efficiency and capabilities of the LiveWire motorcycle in the most intense circumstances.
This was documented through the Harley-Davidson (H-D) podcast series. The six-part podcast series features how near-production LiveWire models were altered to efficiently go through desert trails, single track, and dirt roads.
Harley-Davidson Chairman, President, and CEO Jochen Zeitz explained, “Harley-Davidson stands for the timeless pursuit of adventure. This podcast series is a premier showcase for how Harley- Davidson’s talented staff of engineers and designers go above and beyond in their mission to create motorcycles that unlock adventures wherever they may lead. These efforts can be experienced in the 2020 LiveWire — a shining example of how Harley-Davidson innovates to lead in the electrification of motorcycling. It’s an experience that can only be truly understood after riding it.”
A select team, composed of the same competent Harley-Davidson designers and engineers who developed the LiveWire motorcycle, was organized from the broader development group to make modifications on the near-production LiveWire models for the purpose of achieving completion of its journey.
In less than 30 days, this specific team built, put together, and modified motorcycles. The team also integrated feedback after preliminary tests to complete the storage and ergonomic systems on the bikes, which made their way to the southern part of Argentina in 60 days.
The updated LiveWire motorcycles utilized manufacturing specification RESS (Rechargeable Energy Storage System) chassis, hardware, and Harley-Davidson Revelation powertrain components.
Moreover, the motorcycles were updated with prototype rotors, tires, and wheels from the forthcoming Harley-Davidson Pan America adventure touring motorcycle, and triple clamps, rear shock, and custom windshield customized specifically for this initiative.
Prior to its delivery, the modified LiveWire motorcycles were brought for preliminary testing at the Willie G. Davidson Product Development Center of Harley-Davidson. The motorcycles were also ridden under the same development validity standards at Harley-Davidson’s Proving Grounds facility.
