Suzuki Burgman NEV options to be showcased at 2023 Japan Mobility Show

MANILA: Two new-energy models of the Suzuki Burgman scooter will be showcased at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show (JMS), the motorcycle brand confirmed.

One is an all-electric version called the Suzuki e-Burgman (photo shown above). It is based on the 125 cubic centimeter (cc) model of the nameplate and utilizes the exchangeable battery-sharing service provided by Gachaco.

That said, the electric model could have the same features offered by the locally-available Suzuki Burgman Street and Burgman EX, which are both internal-combustion-engine-powered.

The latter proved to be a decent city motorcycle as Zigwheels Philippines was able to test its mettle during a media test ride from Laguna to Batangas.

Per Suzuki, the e-Burgman demonstration project that will be staged at the 2023 JMS has the aim of collecting data on motorcycles used for daily transportation — such as commuting and shopping — and utilize it for future development of electric motorcycles.

Meanwhile, Suzuki also said that it will bring a hydrogen-powered Burgman to the Japanese motor expo, which is based on the 400cc model of the motorbike.

It could have been the obvious choice as the beefier body of the 400cc Suzuki Burgman maxi scoot can hold the 70-megapascal hydrogen tank and hydrogen engine powering the said version.

Should it make its way into the country, the hydrogen variant of the Burgman 400 could be a good choice for those in the market for an eco-friendly, expressway-legal maxi scooter.

The hydrogen-fed Suzuki Burgman might be the product of the brand’s continuous efforts in researching and developing hydrogen engines. Suzuki said that the company sees these strides as one of the multi-pathway initiatives for realizing carbon neutrality.
