Suzuki Philippines launches all-new Suzuki Katana
MANILA: Suzuki Philippines took the opportunity to launch their newest big bike, the much-awaited 2020 Katana during the recently concluded Philippine Moto Heritage Weekend 2019 last September 28 through 29 at the Metrotent in Metrowalk, Ortigas.
The original Suzuki Katana was birthed in 1981, which soon became a legendary bike because of its iconic design and outstanding performance. It was such a sensation that Suzuki failed to replicate the same enthusiasm from other succeeding Suzuki superbike models. And now, after the unveiling at the 2018 International Motorcycle & Scooter Fair held in Cologne, Germany, almost a year ago, Suzuki Katana is on the shores of the Philippines.
And based on what we’ve initially seen, Suzuki Katana does not disappoint.
The new 2020 Suzuki Katana is responsive to the current demands of the discerning motorcycling market while keeping some aspects of the 1981 Katana model alive. Particularly, the 2020 Katana kept the fairing's sharp frontal shape design coupled with a LED headlamp. The rear side sports a compact rear fender that seamlessly integrates to the massive triangulated swingarm which keeps the tail section looking clean and aggressive. The 32.5-inch-high seat and nicely shaped touring handlebar completes a comfortable riding experience.
Under the fairing is the GSX-S1000 platform that uses a twin-spar aluminum frame powered by a version of the 999cc four-cylinder engine used in the 2005-2008 GSX-R1000 that delivers 150hp at 10,000 rpm of power, and 79.6 pound-feet of torque at 9,500rpm.
The 2020 Suzuki Katana also boasts of a 73.4 x 59.0mm bore and stroke to get a torquier engine capable of smooth throttle response even from low rpm. The new Katana also features a three-mode traction control system, Low RPM Assist, Suzuki Easy Start System, Back-torque limiting clutch, and Antilock Braking System (ABS).
The 2020 Suzuki Katana comes in Metallic Mystic Silver and Glass Sparkle Black color and carries a Php 817,000 price tag.
