Suzuki presents touring variant of V-Strom 800

MANILA: Suzuki has presented a new variant of the V-Strom 800, one that is built for paved roads.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • In what markets has Suzuki released the V-Strom 800?

The Suzuki V-Strom 800 has initially been released in Europe and North America.
  • What powers the Suzuki V-Strom 800?

The Suzuki V-Strom 800 is powered by a 779 cubic centimeter engine mated to a six-speed constant mesh transmission.
  • According to the Japanese motorcycle marque, the Suzuki V-Strom 800 “is a newly developed variation model of the V-Strom 800DE.” Compared to the V-Strom 800DE available here in the country — which was engineered and equipped with features for riding over gravel roads — the V-Strom 800 “was developed for high comfortability and driving performance on paved roads and long-distance touring.”

Probably one of the most noticeable changes offered by the new Suzuki V-Strom 800 is its 19-inch cast aluminum wheels, which provide a striking contrast to the 21-inch wire-spoked rimset donned by the DE model.

Further, the new Suzuki V-Strom 800 was endowed with radial-mount brake calipers on the front brake as well as tubeless tires to best suit the riding conditions on paved roads.

Complementing the abovementioned features are the host of technologies found in the new Suzuki V-Strom 800’s Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS). Through it, riders can use the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector, with three modes of different power outputs.

The Suzuki V-Strom 800’s SIRS also comes with traction control with three modes, an anti-lock braking system with two selectable modes, a bi-directional quick shift system, low revolutions-per-minute assist, and the Suzuki Easy Start System.

The aforementioned systems can be viewed from the motorbike’s five-inch thin-film transistor instrument cluster. Added amenities such as a USB Type-A port and an ergonomic handlebar make it a good choice for those looking to ride long distances.

Powering the Suzuki V-Strom 800 is a 779 cubic centimeter engine. The liquid-cooled powerplant is paired with a six-speed constant mesh transmission with the Suzuki Clutch Assist System.

    New Suzuki V-Strom 800

In Europe, where the Suzuki V-Strom 800 is sold as the V-Strom 800 RE, it makes approximately 83 horses with 78 Newton-meters (Nm) of pulling power.

Speaking of which, sales of the Suzuki V-Strom 800 have begun this month. It is primarily sold in Europe where it is priced at £9,699 or around P674,873 and in North America where it is called the V-Strom 800 Touring and has a sticker price of $10,499 or about P596,904 (excluding destination charges and freight costs).
