Yamaha joins hands with Gogoro for EC-05 electric scooter
MANILA: Electric vehicles look promising, don’t they? Not only they don’t harm the environment as much as ICEs but also help in reducing noise pollution. However, short range and longer charging durations have always let down potential users. In the quest of finding a solution to this problem, automobile manufacturers like Kymco have come up with battery swapping technology.
In the battery swapping tech, the users simply swap the drained battery of their electric vehicles with the charged ones at a station in no time. Kymco even displayed the tech at the Inside Racing Bike Festival and Trade Show (IRBF) held in March, earlier this year.
Moving on, the newest automaker joining the fleet is Yamaha, who has just previewed its EC-05, an electric scooter developed in collaboration with Gogoro. You don’t need to scratch your heads thinking about who is Gogoro. It is a Taiwanese e-scooter manufacturer that has developed a battery swapping tech.
The EC-05 is an electric scooter designed by Yamaha and made by Gogoro, which further extends the possibilities of it being compatible with existing Gogoro battery stations. While we do not have much information about the Yamaha EC-05 specifications, the electric scooter is said to feature Gogoro 2 Series e-Scooters’ components. With that being said, the Yamaha EC-05 may come with a top speed of 100 kmph along with a 100-km range.
The Yamaha EC-05 will be available on all Yamaha Taiwan showrooms starting August 2019. The electric scooter will then make its way to different markets across the planet slowly and steadily.
