KEY TAKEAWAYS
Who is Yamaha Motor Corporation Limited’s partner for the Sulawesi mangrove planting project?
Yamaha Motor Corporation Limited’s partner for the Sulawesi mangrove planting project is YL Forest Corporation Limited. Why did Yamaha Motor Corporation Limited engage in a mangrove planting project?
Yamaha Motor Corporation Limited has engaged in a mangrove planting project because one of its long-term goals is protecting the world’s oceans. The aforementioned project came via a service agreement between the Shizuoka-headquartered company and YL Forest Corporation Limited (YLF), which provided its proprietary mangrove planting method.
In accordance with a signed agreement, YLF will work on the mangrove planting initiative in Sulawesi for three years. Through the forestry company, Yamaha Motor will plant around 370,000 trees within a 215-hectare area.
According to the Japanese company, the planting of mangroves through YLF’s “silvo-fishery” method will benefit aquaculture regeneration. It will contribute towards increasing the region’s biodiversity, which will eventually lead to the improvement of the local resident’s livelihoods.
Mangrove forests are also known to store large amounts of carbon underground. As such, large swathes of coastal land covered in the said species of semi-aquatic tree are crucial in generating “blue carbon.”
Blue carbon, as the Japanese marque shares, is a type of carbon absorbed by coastal and marine ecosystems.
For the unaware, Yamaha Motor is one of the largest manufacturers of marine powertrains, personal watercraft, and motorboats in the world. As such, it has pledged to continue its work in preserving Earth’s waters through its long-term vision “towards a future with a greater ocean than the current one of today.”
In addition to its array of marine-related products, the brand also offers a huge lineup of motorcycles in the country. Some of Yamaha Motor Philippines Incorporated’s notable nameplates include the Mio Aerox, Mio Sporty, XTZ 125, NMAX, XSR900, MT-10 SP, and Super Tenere ES, among others.
The company also launched the updated MT-09 SP and Tenere 700 at the recently concluded Yamaha Motorshow 2024.
