MANILA: Riders from the Yamaha Philippines Racing Team have completed the 2024 season of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC).

    McKinley Kyle Paz — who is also nicknamed the Wonderboy — showcased a consistent performance in the ARRC Supersports 600 cubic centimeter (cc) category.

    He almost made it to the podium with a fifth-place finish in Race 1 and 2 of the final heat where he started 11th on the grid.

    Paz placed seventh overall.

    Further, the Yamaha Tekhne Racing Team took home the overall team championship win after scoring 13 more points than its rival.

    The Flash

    On the other hand, Gian Carlo “The Flash” Mauricio showed a commendable performance throughout the season despite riding solo for the most part due to the absence of his injured UMA Racing Yamaha Philippines partner April King Mascardo.

    In the final round, Mauricio started 10th in the grid and finished 11th in Race 1. He ultimately suffered a DNF (did not finish) in Race 2.

    Despite the setbacks, Mauricio proved himself on the international stage.

    Purino

    Stepping in as Mascardo’s substitute was JD Purino.

    The stand-in found the going tough but showed promise in his debut race. He started from the 19th position and did not finish either race.

    Nevertheless, his performance was a display of adaptability and a strong competitive spirit which Yamaha believed to be a positive indication of what he could bring to the team in future races.

    “The final round highlighted the depth of talent and determination among Filipino riders, especially considering Mascardo’s absence. Despite the challenges, Paz, Mauricio, Purino, showcased their commitment to the growth of motorsports in the Philippines,” Yamaha Motor Philippines wrote in a press release.

    “The Yamaha Philippines Racing Team will return on April 23, 2025, for the Official Testing at the Chang International Circuit, Thailand on April 25-27. Watch out for the next chapter of our Filipino riders as they continue their pursuit of racing greatness and elevating the Philippines in the world of racing,” it added.
