Chery Tiggo 2

Matching the simplicity of the exterior design of the Chery Tiggo 2 is its interior cabin, which again doesn’t possess any visual drama and unique features to talk about much.

The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with a long and vertical centre boss looks a bit different from that of other cars, and so does the uniquely laid analog dials behind it. The driver-oriented centre console, that is slightly tilted towards him/her, looks wide, thanks to the sleek rectangular AC vents at the top and a large touchscreen infotainment system below it surrounded by a good looking piano black finish. The all-black cabin does come with blue highlights on centre console, AC vents, and door panels, thus making the cabin feel bright.

The Chery Tiggo 2 is decently equipped with all the modern and necessary features and is spacious enough to meet the comfort of five passengers with ease.

While most of the SUVs and crossovers are moving forward with contemporary design languages with design elements unique to them, the Chery Tiggo 2 wears a slightly dated design, which doesn’t feel as modern as it should have been.

The Chery Tiggo 2 might be a crossover to say the least, but it has a slight ruggedness to it, thanks to the body cladding all around as well as skid plate at the front. Speaking of the front, the Chery Tiggo 2 comes with an inclined bonnet which ends up in an angular front grille with the lower edges tapering downwards. The headlamps, which do incorporate projector bulbs and daytime running lamps, are quite big in size and make the Tiggo 2 look quite huge from the front.

The Chery Tiggo 2 has a clean design when viewed from the side, with the side cladding and roof rails giving it an appeal of an SUV. The roofline of the Tiggo 2 has a typical curvy look to it, which makes it look a bit stylish. At the rear, the Chery Tiggo 2 again has a rather clean design, which is characterised by a sleek chrome line at the centre joining the sweptback tail lamps. The large silver skid plate does add some ruggedness to the otherwise simple rear look of the car.

The Chery Tiggo 2 might not be a driver’s delight in terms of precise ride and handling balance, but the softly sprung suspension setup do make the things look better when it comes to ride quality. The steering is light weighted and lacks feedback for precise driving dynamics, but then, it is adequately weighted to make urban driving duties a breeze.

The Chery Tiggo 2 comes with a conventionally sounding 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine under its hood. Paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox as standard, this engine develops a maximum power output of 106 PS and a peak torque output of 135 Nm. The engine feels adequately powerful, if not zippy, and has a linear power delivery associated to it. The 4-speed gearbox, however, feels lazy at times.

The Chery Tiggo covers the basics of the safety list, with features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, hill hold control and reverse parking sensors with camera.

The Chery Tiggo might not be a very appealing product at first, with the bland design on the outside generating a not so great first impression. However, when it comes to practicality, the Chery Tiggo 2 scores decently with a good balance of ride and handling, making it an adequate vehicle for meeting one’s daily needs of commuting.
