Dongfeng Rich 6

The cabin of the Dongfeng Rich 6 feels wide and spacious, with it being offered in a dual-tone black and grey theme, accentuated well by contrast silver accents around the centre console, steering wheel, AC vents and cup holders in the transmission tunnel. However, it is the dated-looking layout and below-average fit and finish levels, which can turn off many potential buyers, especially the new-age ones.

Most of the components of the Dongfeng Rich 6, including the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, instrument console with analogue gauges and rounded AC vents, have an old-school vibe to them. However, the centre console here brings some excitement, with chrome surrounds for the trapezoidal panels for the touchscreen infotainment system and the automatic climate control panel below it.

At the bottom of the centre console, the Dongfeng Rich 6 gets a rounded knob for controlling the four-wheel drive system. Along with the features mentioned above, the double-cab cabin of the Dongfeng Rich 6 is equipped with more features like an engine start-stop button, front and rear centre armrest and driver seat height adjustment.

A more upmarket-looking version of the Dongfeng Rich, the new Rich 6 has been in existence since 2017 without any significant change to its exterior. While the absence of changes to the exterior design in all these years makes the Dongfeng Rich 6 look a bit old-school, it is the stance and dimensions of the Dongfeng Rich 6 which give it a smart road presence.

At the front, the Dongfeng Rich 6 tries to look premium with its intimidating-looking chrome grille. This trapezoidal-shaped grille has chrome surrounds and a thick chrome slat running across its width on the inside. The angular headlamps on the sides of the grille have halogen lamps for the main headlights, which get daytime running LED strips above them. The front bumper has more chrome in the form of C-shaped garnishes around the rounded fog lamps.

The Dongfeng Rich 6 continues its muscular persona to its side profile as well, where the pickup gets flared rounded wheel arches above the chunky-looking 16-inch tyres, which come wrapped over 16-inch machined alloy wheels. Like the Nissan Terra on which it is based, the Dongfeng Rich 6 also gets a small kink to the end of the rear window waistline.

The Dongfeng Rich 6 is complete with black roof rails, chrome door handles, and body-coloured outside rearview mirrors with integrated turn indicators. The rear profile of the Dongfeng Rich 6 looks rather plain, with the deck lid having a chrome handle, while the side pillars here have simple-looking halogen tail lamps arranged vertically.

Available with a four-wheel drive system with locking differentials as standard, the Dongfeng Rich 6 has a pretty basic suspension setup under its skin, comprising of a double wishbone with coil springs and stabilizer at the front and rigid elliptical leaf springs with hydraulic double-acting telescopic shock absorbers at the rear. The ride quality feels bouncy at times, but the Dongfeng Rich 6 is decently solid enough to take all the beatings, while carrying significant load in its deck.

The Dongfeng Rich 6 in the Philippines comes standard with the 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which has been borrowed from Nissan offerings like the Terra SUV. Here in the Dongfeng Rich 6, the engine is available with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission choices and claims 148 bhp of maximum power and 305 Nm of maximum torque.

The Dongfeng Rich 6 is very basic in terms of safety, with the truck getting only the basic must-haves like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and rear camera.

The Dongfeng Rich 6 might not be a very appealing pickup truck, as its chief rivals have moved the game to an altogether different level with much newness over it. However, for its price, the Dongfeng Rich 6 is a decent pickup, with its core strengths being a reliable engine and capable chassis, both of which have been derived from Nissan.
