Ford Focus Sedan (2005-2019)

Unlike the Fiesta sedan, the Focus sedan thankfully mirrors its modernity of the outside in the cabin as well.

The three-spoke steering wheel with silver touches as well as pod-like instrument console with a centrally placed colored MID screen makes up for a great driver’s cockpit. The center console feels wide and large, with a centrally positioned high mounted 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system being the attention catcher here. Apart from the regulars like USB, Aux-in, SD card, and Bluetooth support, it also features Ford’s SYNC 2 system for seamless phone connectivity and voice commands. However, the lack of Android Auto and Apple Carplay in this system is a huge miss.

The sportiness of the Focus sedan’s cabin can be felt here as well, with the seats getting good under-thigh support and sporty ergonomics. However, the rear seat space could have been better though. The Ford Focus sedan is equipped with the same set of comfort and convenience features like its sedan counterpart, which includes auto headlamps with follow-me-home function, rain sensing wipers, power adjustable and foldable rear view mirrors, front and rear park assist, cruise control, push-button start with keyless entry, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, dual zone climate control, ambient lighting, sunglass holder, paddle shifters and Ford’s MyKey system.

Ford has always made some great looking cars with an abundance of sporty flavor in them, and the Focus sedan is a no different case. However, in this sedan version, the extremely sporty flavor of the Focus hatchback has been diluted a bit with a subtler stance, which does make the car look aggressive and elegant at the same time – a rare combination to start with.

The frontal profile of the Focus sedan is a complete lift-off from its hatchback version, with a sleeker hexagonal grille and sweptback headlamps. The headlamps do get a small daytime running LED within them, however, the absence of projector units in such a premium car feels like a glaring omission.

The side profile of the Focus sedan is where it brings the perfect combination of elegance and sportiness in its truest form. The bigger 18-inch alloy wheels and lowered stance are well accompanied by a well-proportioned roofline and waistline, with the latter getting chrome touches to add a touch of premium appeal to the side profile.

The extremely hunkered down and aggressive hatch of the Focus hatchback has been replaced by a more subtle looking extended boot lid, here in the sedan version.

This third generation version of the Ford Focus, like its previous versions, is a great driver’s car to start with. Sitting on big 18-inch wheels with low profile tyres, the Focus sedan gets Macpherson Strut at the front and Independent Control Blade Multi-link System with stabilizer at the rear. The stiff suspension setup blesses the Focus sedan with an incredible handling and grip balance. However, this very sporty setup of suspension has a slight downside in the form of stiff ride quality.

The Ford Focus sedan for the Philippines market is available with only one powertrain combination – the 1.5-litre turbocharged Ecoboost engine with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This four-cylinder turbocharged engine delivers 180 PS of maximum power output and 240 Nm of peak torque output.

Like in its hatchback counterpart, one does get dual front and side airbags, ABS with EBD, active park assist electronic stability program, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, hill launch assist, and traction control in the sedan version as well.

The Ford Focus sedan is one perfect example to exhibit the fact that an everyday saloon can have sporty demeanors as well. Both the exteriors as well as interiors have a perfect blend of aggressiveness and elegance in their design. And what sets the bars higher in this car are the performance and driving dynamics, which indeed are the best-in-class.
