Suzuki Jimny 5-Door

One look at the cabin layout of the 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door is enough to confirm that the overall cabin layout is the same as that of the three-door Jimny. The cabin layout is identical to the same all-black theme for the cabin, which has hard plastics all around to go with the rugged appeal of the off-roader. The all-new Jimny 5-Door also has chrome door handles on the inside, though the dashboard and door panels have an all-black theme which looks and feels like they are built to a cost.

In both the variants, the new Suzuki Jimny 5-Door gets fabric upholstery, and like the three-door version, the driver’s seat of the Jimny 5DR misses out on height adjustment. The front passenger gets a ride-in assist grip above the glove box, which comes in handy while tackling off-road terrains to remain stable in the cabin.

Passenger and boot space

Despite a longer wheelbase, the Suzuki Jimny 5DR remains a strict four-seater, for the width of the SUV remains unchanged over the three-door version. The rear bench of the Suzuki Jimny 5DR is wide enough to accommodate only two people, and the presence of only two seat belts at the rear confirms that Suzuki itself promotes this off-roader as a four-seater vehicle.

The Suzuki Jimny 5DR might look small on the outside but has enough room for all four passengers. Even the rear cabin has a good amount of knee room, headroom and shoulder room for two people at its best. However, the biggest grouse in the cabin of the Suzuki Jimny 5DR is the lack of storage space. Apart from a single bottle holder between the front seats and a glovebox in the dashboard, there are no other small storage spaces in the cabin of the Suzuki Jimny 5DR to store small items. 

The Suzuki Jimny 5DR offers a boot space of 208 litres, which is decent enough for a vehicle of its size. However, the rear seats can be folded down, post which the boot space goes up to 332 litres. 

Comfort and entertainment

For a vehicle of its price, the Suzuki Jimny 5DR might not be the best-equipped passenger vehicle in terms of features. However, for a lifestyle off-roader, the Suzuki Jimny 5DR ticks many boxes by having all the essentials on board.

The base-spec GL variant of the Suzuki Jimny 5DR is complete with features like remote central locking, steering-mounted audio and Bluetooth control and an LCD MID between two analogue dials in the unique-looking instrument console. It also has features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, manual AC, tilt-adjustable steering wheel and all four power windows.

The more-premium GLX AT variant of the Suzuki Jimny 5DR justifies its premium with additional features on the inside, such as a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless functionality for the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, automatic climate control, engine push start-stop button and leather-wrapped steering wheel. 

As expected, the 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door looks exactly like the fourth-generation three-door Jimny, which debuted in 2019. The Jimny 5-Door is essentially a long-wheelbase version of the three-door model, which has facilitated the addition of rear doors. Rest assured, the Suzuki Jimny 5DR continues to be a boxy-looking off-roader with a hint of cutesiness in its overall design, especially at the front. 

Like the three-door Jimny, the Suzuki Jimny 5DR also gets a rectangular grille, which is finished in a greyish theme and comes with five rectangular slats, which have chrome surrounds. The fascia also includes rounded headlamps with tiny rounded turn indicators on their outer sides. These headlamps are halogens in the GL MT variant and LED projectors in the GLX AT variant.

The Suzuki Jimny 5DR also gets a blacked-out front bumper with tapered outer edges to allow better approach and departure over off-road terrains. In the GLX AT variant, the Jimny 5DR also gets headlamp washers placed just below the rounded headlamps. The rounded halogen fog lamps offered in the GLX AT variant are neatly positioned within trapezoidal housings on the corners. 

The side profile is where the major difference between the Suzuki Jimny 5DR and its three-door version lies, with the former getting a longer wheelbase and additional rear door panels. All the window panels and doors have angular designs, with the Jimny 5DR also getting flared wheel arches with body cladding and electrically adjustable and foldable rearview mirrors. While the GL MT variant has 15-inch black steel wheels, the GLX AT variant has 15-inch gunmetal grey alloy wheels. 

The rear profile of the Suzuki Jimny 5DR also looks exactly like the three-door version, with the almost squarish-looking tailgate having a large spare wheel mounted on it. The tailgate here opens sideways to have access to the boot compartment. The rear bumper is also blacked out here, with the corners getting horizontally-laid trapezoidal halogen tail lamps. Apart from the longer 2590mm wheelbase, the Suzuki Jimny 5DR measures 3985mm long, 1645mm wide and 1720mm tall. The offroader also has a ground clearance of 210mm.

The Suzuki Jimny 5DR gets the same engine as that on other premium Suzuki offerings, however, the tuning and mounting of the engine here are different, and so are the official fuel economy figures. Suzuki claims maximum fuel efficiency figures of 16.94 kmpl in city conditions and 16.39 kmpl in highway driving conditions. For fuel saving, the engine gets the assistance of an idle start-stop feature, which shuts off the engine when it remains idle for some time.

Along with a mechanically locking rear differential, this 4WD system has the three traditional drive modes – 2H, 4H and 4L, which offer the best possible traction and grip over varying types of surfaces, or a lack of them. 

Adding more easiness to the off-road driving appeal of the Suzuki Jimny 5DR is the high ground clearance of 210mm and tough-looking tread pattern for the 195/80 R15 tyres. The compact dimensions of the Suzuki Jimny 5DR, along with a lightweight steering setup, make it a breeze to drive in city traffic conditions. However, the turning radius of 5.7 metres is quite big for a vehicle of its size.
