Kymco Downtown 350i TCS

Designed with the intent of offering the best of sport riding and touring, the overall look of the Kymco Downtown 350i has a commanding stance with large dimensions and bulky-looking proportions. Despite being a few years old in design, the Kymco Downtown 300i still looks fresh and modern, with the features offered to justify its price pretty much.

The Kymco Downtown 350i has a huge and bulky-looking fascia, comprising of a wide apron having edgy-looking dual headlamps placed on its lower half. These headlamps have daytime running LEDs and decorative inserts to their sides while having a tall and transparent windscreen placed just above them and covering the upper half. The lower side body panels of the Kymco Downtown 350i are boomerang-shaped and come with LED turn indicators placed on their upper edges.

The Kymco Downtown 350i carries its European flair on its side profile too, with the maxi-scooter having a split floorboard with a central tunnel and large side body panels below the massively spacious seat. All the side panels of the Kymco Downtown 350i have several creases which make it a busy-looking design. The seat, while measuring long and large, has a stepped-up design for comfortable seating for two people, and has a capacious under-seat storage space good enough for two helmets. Meanwhile, the central tunnel also accommodates the fuel tank of the scooter.

At the back, the Kymco Downtown 350i has a wide tail lamp assembly, which has a raked design and houses a central tail lamp and turn indicators to its sides. Above the tail lamp, this scooter has a large and wide single-piece grab rail. The cockpit of the Kymco Downtown 350i also looks wide, with the large and premium handlebar having a three-part instrument console behind it. This display unit has a large rounded analogue clock in the middle while having an analogue speedometer to its left and a full-LCD screen for odometer, trip meters, fuel gauge, tachometer and engine temperature gauge to its right. The Kymco Downtown 350i is also heavily equipped with features like keyless ignition and a 12V charging socket but lacks Bluetooth connectivity.

With its large dimensions, the Kymco Downtown 350 might not be as easy and clickable to ride in city traffic as other lower-positioned scooters. However, this huge size gives it a great sense of comfort, only amplified by the plush setup of suspension combination – telescopic forks at the front and five-step adjustable dual-sided hydraulic coil springs at the rear. Riding on a 14-inch alloy wheel with 120/80-14 tyre at the front and a 13-inch alloy wheel with 150/70-13 rear tyre, the Kymco Downtown 350i has a braking setup of 260mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear.

The Kymco Downtown 350i sources its power from a four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 320.6cc engine, which is one of its largest and most powerful scooter engines produced to date. Paired with a CVT belt-driven gearbox, this engine churns out a maximum power output of 30 PS, while the peak torque output is rated at 29.4 Nm. The engine feels decently powerful for its price, but the refinement levels leave a small room for improvement, especially at higher RPMs.

Save for a dual-channel ABS, the Kymco Downtown 350i doesn’t come with any other modern-day safety feature, which is a big miss for a scooter of its price and size.

While the Kymco Downtown 350i misses out on some premium features for a maxi-scooter, it justifies its positioning and price with the very European design, large dimensions, powerful engine and comfortable ride quality.
