Skygo King

On the first glance itself, the Skygo King might not appeal you with its highly dated and extremely functional design, which is too sober for the taste buds of the buyers of this generation.

At the front, the Skygo King is fitted with a very simple looking rectangular headlamp, which gets the company of equally simple looking squared turn indicators, giving it a highly dated front fascia. The large instrument console placed above the headlamp makes the overall front fascia quite large when viewed head-on.

The side profile of the Skygo King has been somewhat inspired with that of its own smaller 125cc sibling, the Prince. The slim fuel tank with bold graphics, the angular side body cowls, grey finished theme for the engine and spoke wheels altogether make up for a severely old design, which is far from being modern in any way. Even the absence of a heat shield on the exhaust pipe as well as a rear side body panel further enhances its utilitarian appeal even more. However, the large and single piece seat on the King is quite roomy and comfortable.

At the rear, the Skygo King has the same squared tail lamp as well as squared turn indicators found in the other motorcycles of the company, giving the same boring feel at the rear as at the front. The tubular grab rail, though lacking in style, is quite functional at the times of carrying an extra load on the motorcycle.

The instrument console of the Skygo King has been shared with the Prince, which comes with analog speedometer, tachometer and odometer. The switchgear feels flimsy and the overall build quality is far from being plush. The presence of an electric starter is the only ‘fancy’ feature available on the Skygo King.

Skygo has equipped the King with the conventional suspension setup of a set of telescopic forks at the front and a set of hydraulic coil springs at the rear. Tuned on a softer edge, the overall suspension feels plush for slow city commutes. However, the faster sprints might not feel as involved due to the presence of skinny tyres at both ends. And despite the fact that it is the most powerful motorcycle from Skygo, it still misses out on a front disc brake, which is a shame.

Sitting at the top of the bunch of motorcycles from Skygo, the King is offered with the biggest engine of them all – a four-stroke, single- cylinder, air-cooled, carbureted, 144.66cc engine. This engine, coupled to a 5-speed gearbox, produces a maximum power output of 13PS and a peak torque output of 10Nm. These figures make the King the most powerful Skygo offering, and that is reflected on the road as well, with a healthy midrange to make the city commutes a breeze.

To make the King as cost-conscious as possible, Skygo has skipped out on the safety features, as the King lacks any of them. The presence of a front disc brake or a combined braking system in a product of this class is a common thing, something the Skygo King misses out on.

The Skygo King, despite being the flagship motorcycle from Skygo, is quite uninspiring product from the way it looks. The overall styling is very staid and doesn’t feel modern or contemporary at all. However, the core strengths of the King lie in its performance and ride quality, where it satisfactorily performs quite well, thus making it a powerful commuter for your decent city rides.
