Bajaj highlights advantages of 3-wheelers vs. e-trikes

MANILA: Bajaj Philippines has highlighted the advantages of owning its three-wheelers over electric tricycles (e-trikes).

Since e-trikes have found themselves under the spotlight lately, many people see them as the same type of vehicle as Bajaj’s gas-powered three-wheelers.

Legal rights

Bajaj pointed out that owners of the brand’s three-wheelers “have greater legal rights on the road” than e-trike users.

Since Bajaj three-wheelers must be registered with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), these vehicles will have the privilege of using secondary national highways in the outermost lane or the rightmost portion of the road if the local government unit (LGU) has no designated alternative route in the area under LTO Memo Circular No. 2020-2227.

That said, there are more legal routes available for owners of Bajaj three-wheelers — like the Maxima Z and Maxima Cargo.

Driving knowledge

Aside from an LTO registration, drivers of Bajaj three-wheelers are required to have a valid license to operate the vehicle. Its owners, or drivers at the very least, must take theoretical and practical driving courses to make them safer and more knowledgeable on the road.

So, it is safe to assume that those sitting atop the saddle of a Bajaj three-wheeler are knowledgeable drivers who have passed the basic requirements set by the country’s land transport bureau. Otherwise, they will be facing corresponding penalties.

Long-distance driving

Since e-trikes only pack small batteries, they are not suited for long-distance travel.

On the other hand, Bajaj three-wheelers such as the RE, can cover greater distances and can cater to the various needs of their owners. The said model is equipped with a 198.88 cubic centimeter four-stroke, forced air-cooled, fuel-injected (Fi) engine. The gasoline-fed powerplant is mated to a constant mesh, four-speed transmission.

Since it runs on gasoline fuel, its owners can take advantage of the abundant refilling stations found in and out of the metro. In addition, the Fi system used by Bajaj promises its customers a more efficient ride, allowing them to clock in more kilometers.
