Hyundai PH now has trio of DOTr-approved modern jeepney models
MANILA: Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, was able to acquire a certificate of compliance (COC) from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for its HD50S Class 3 Modern Jeepney.
This signifies another milestone in the advocacy of the company to support the modernization of public transport.
Since COCs have already been provided to the Hyundai H-100 Class 1 and Hyundai HD50S Class 2 in 2019, this new certification makes HARI the first and only brand thus far with a complete range of modern jeepneys compliant with with the Philippine National Standards (PNS).
First launched in February 2020, the Hyundai HD50S Class 3 Modern Jeepney is powered by a 2.9-liter Euro 4-compliant CRDi engine that promotes cleaner emissions, dependability, and better fuel efficiency.
It is also engineered for improved power-to-weight ratio as well as stability. It has a 3,415-millimeter wheelbase, speed limiter, seven-inch monitor, CCTV cameras, GPS tracking, WiFi, AFCS, and roof-mounted air-conditioning.
It also provides more room as it can seat 22 passengers and up to a maximum of 10 standing commuters.
The new commuter workhorse of Hyundai has been evaluated in the field almost regularly to support the COVID-19 mobility programs of the government.
HARI President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo explained, “The pandemic has stressed the need to modernize and fortify public transport in the country. Using our modern jeepney platforms, we were the first to roll out Ligtas Biyahe (COVID-ready) variants that were utilized and proven effective in the government’s Libreng Sakay for frontliners. We need to reach critical mass so we can keep the majority, if not all, of the riding public safe and secure.”
The Ligtas Biyahe variant of the Hyundai Modern Jeepney takes pride in the most rigorous safety measures like the use of plastic dividers, social distancing with single seating, and contactless transactions.
Since last year’s debut, the company has constantly received plenty of orders for the modern jeepney shuttles, not only from the primary transport groups of the country, but also from local government units (LGUs) and private firms.
