MMDA acquires Isuzu Giga for road emergency and disaster response

MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) revealed that they acquired two Isuzu Giga C-Series wrecker cranes to be used for emergency and disaster response.

According to the agency, the two heavy-duty equipment would boost MMDA’s response capability, especially during road accidents and emergency response.

The Giga wrecker crane from Isuzu is designed for heavy-duty towing and is capable of carrying up to 50 tons.

“The wrecker crane will be used in case of a roadside accident or breakdown involving heavy vehicles. Vehicles involved in accidents should be removed from the site as soon as possible to allow normal traffic and prevent obstruction in the road,” said MMDA Acting Chairman Attorney Don Artes.

Based on the photos from MMDA, the trucks they have acquired appear to be the Isuzu CYH52 Rigid Truck. Per the Japanese truck brand, the CYH52 Rigid Truck has a gross vehicle weight of 41,000 kilograms and has a 6WG1-TCN engine that can put out as much as 414 horsepower and 1,863 Newton-meters of torque.

Among the features of trucks from the similar lineup include the aforementioned Euro 5-compliant Blue Power diesel engine, an anti-lock braking system, a reinforced chassis frame, easy coupler attachment, an electronic tilting cab, a quick-access front panel, and power steering with tilt and telescopic adjust functions.

The MMDA Acting Chair as well as MMDA General Manager Usec. Procopio Lipana spearheaded the blessing ceremony of two wrecker cranes recently.
