Shell’s Starship 3.0 experimental truck highlighted at FutureCast

MANILA: Shell Pilipinas Corporation highlighted the achievements of the Starship 3.0 truck at the recently concluded FutureCast event. 

With the said event focusing on the future of fleet operations in the transport and logistics industry, Shell Lubricants CRT Sector Associate Manager Akankasha Sharma shared how the experimental truck functions as a demonstrator for proven ways to lower operational costs amid the worsening state of traffic congestion in the local setting. 

Specifically, Sharma espoused the advantages of using high-performance engine oils with low viscosity and fully synthetic transmission oil. 

“The lower the oil viscosity becomes, the higher is the benefit to fuel economy,” Sharma said. Doing so can lead to measurable savings, as well as a lower carbon footprint. The aforementioned was proven on the advanced test truck, but it can also be practiced by local fleet operators as well. 

According to Shell, the Starship 3.0 is now in its third iteration, and it uses a Cummins natural gas engine, low rolling resistance tires, and lightweight exterior components. 

Sharma also shared the aerodynamic long haul truck’s capability to register a freight ton efficiency rate, which is 2.54 times better than the US average, hauling the maximum allowable load of 36,287 kilograms (80,000 pounds). 

At the same event, Shell Pilipinas also showcased its own fleet solutions and telematics capabilities, which are made available via the fuel company’s fleet card. 

Via a partnership with Cartrack, operators utilizing the Shell Fleet Card can be provided with comprehensive vehicle and fuel analytics. Doing so is touted to optimize fuel usage and increase a fleet’s overall fuel efficiency. 

Also showcased at the Shell FutureCast is the Rimula portfolio of automotive products. Rimula, as the British oil and gas company said, is well-suited to meet the demands and requirements of fleets operating in the Philippines.
