Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid: when ‘green’ mobility also means affordability

Around two years ago, the public started to feast on the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid, which was launched at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show. 

This specific model gained followers since then due to numerous technological advancements but has a lower price tag compared to the heavyweights in the category.

So, what does Chery’s mild hybrid offering have that earned the confidence of its buyers? Here’s what we found out about the vehicle following a two-week lend out period.

Dimensions

The Wuhu-headquartered brand’s electrified crossover has the following overall dimensions:

 Space-wise, the small sport utility vehicle (SUV) could be used as a daily driver given that it offers ample seating space for adults. Headroom is sufficient but six-foot-tall individuals might find legroom is a bit limited.

Luggage space would be more than enough for a week’s worth of groceries and can haul even more should the second-row seats be folded.

Exterior

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid’s overall look is decent: it is neither too striking nor bland.

Flanking the “Sunshine Galaxy” front grille are the “Tiger Eye” headlamps with multi-cavity reflective matrix and fog lamps.

Giving the vehicle its sporty appeal on its side profile are the distinct beltlines and the 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels.

More athletic appointments are seen at the back in the form of the light bar that connects the taillamps and dual exhaust pipes held by the black plastic bumpers.

Interior

Welcoming occupants inside the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid are the black and brushed silver elements found on the seats, dashboard, center console, door panels, and steering wheel.

Its cockpit is uncluttered despite the presence of toggle switches, vents, and buttons all around. The natural light that the panoramic sunroof provides complements the ambient light system and ensures that there ample and proper illumination inside the vehicle.

Other amenities inside the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid include:

• 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster
• 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system mated to six speakers
• D-shaped multi-function steering wheel
• USB ports
• 12-volt outlet
• Dual zone air-conditioning system
• Electronically-adjustable front seats

While it has some modern conveniences already, the user interface of its floating screen in the middle of the dash could use a little update.

Powertrain

Powering the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid is the 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a 48-volt belt-starter generator that can deliver the following figures:

Guaranteeing the crossover’s smooth shifting is the continuous variable transmission paired to the aforementioned engine.

Driven on the highway, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid had an average fuel consumption of around 15 kilometers per liter (kpl) while in the city, a little over 8 kpl. These figures are not far from other internal combustion engine-powered models in the category.

Meanwhile, its decelerations and stops are facilitated by the disc brakes at the front and rear.

Technologies

As mentioned in the earlier part of this article, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid is packed with a lot of technological equipment for its price point.

Its floating infotainment system is Android Auto- and Apple Carplay-ready and premium features such as a wireless charging dock and around-view monitor are also present in the vehicle.

Moreover, the SUV is also outfitted with the following safety features namely:

• Six airbags
• Cruise control and speed limiter
• Anti-theft alarm
• Hill descent control
• Isofix anchorages
• Tire pressure monitoring system

Pros, cons

It may not have the most striking look nor the most fuel efficient, but the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid ticks all the right boxes when it comes to convenience (given its price point).

We particularly love how its infotainment is already Apple Carplay and Android Auto-ready but we certainly love to see an upgraded user interface.
