Fresh Chery: Checking on the specs of the new Tiggo 2 Pro

The subcompact crossover market is ripe with many choices, and the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro is among the freshest products in the bunch. It's an upscale version of the Tiggo 2, the entry-level model in the Chinese carmaker's local lineup. 

"With its upmarket styling and premium features, we expect it to surprise and delight Filipinos who are eager to Move for More and who want and expect to get More from this very affordable new car," Chery Auto Philippines President Erroll Dueñas introduced the Tiggo 2 Pro in a release, with a reference to the carmaker's "Move for More" marketing slogan. 

Chery is proud of the small crossover's styling, which was apparently penned by Kevin Rice, the brand's Vice President and Global Chief of Car Design. The British designer previously worked with BMW and as design director for European Mazda, so the Tiggo 2 Pro is described to wear a "European-inspired design." 

This design starts with the car's "starburst" grille which is flanked by slim LED daytime running lights. Placed at the corners of the fascia are the headlights, which also possess a "follow me home" feature that illuminates one's path as he or she walks away from the car. 

The Tiggo 2 Pro's side profile and shape are proof that the car is a basically a subcompact hatchback, but SUV-inspired touches make the look more rugged. Black body cladding adorns the bottom half, while the roof is topped up by rails. A raised ride height and 16-inch alloy wheels result to the car's upright stance. 

Meanwhile, some brightwork softens the appearance, such as the chrome trim on the window beltline and along the rocker panel below the doors.  Distinctive character lines along the sides and rear wheel arches replace what could've been slab surfaces. 

The Tiggo 2's rear is consistent with the crossover theme, featuring the body cladding that also flows well with the plate number recess. On the other hand, integrated chrome-tipped dual tailpipes housed within a silver diffuser, LED tail lights, and a rear spoiler underscore the SUV's upmarket intent. Going inside the Tiggo 2 Pro, part of its premium features are the black faux leather and fabric that wraps most the cabin. Elegant single stitching on the seats, and silver trim on the doors, console, and leather steering wheel further lend to the interior classiness.

Taking center stage is what Chery claimed as the "biggest-in-class" nine-inch touchscreen four-speaker infotainment system. This system boasts Bluetooth, Mirror Link, QDLink, and Apple CarPlay and USB connectivity, and four speakers.  

The Tiggo 2 Pro offers a wealth of modern equipment. Intelligent Remote Key with Remote Engine Start allows one to start the engine and cool the interior even before entering the car. Push-button engine start/stop, cruise control, reversing camera with dynamic guidelines and reversing sensors, all offer convenience to their users. 

The tailgate features remote opening, the headlights height adjustment, all four-windows a one-touch-down function, and the flat-bottom steering wheel a set of multi-function buttons. 

Moving on to the tech specs, the Tiggo 2 Pro uses a 1.5-liter, Euro 5-compliant, four-cylinder gasoline engine for propulsion. This engine is coupled with a nine-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) to ensure fuel-efficient mileage figures.

"The (vehicle) boasts a standard array of exterior and interior features you'd find only in high-end SUV’s, and definitely not in entry-level models," the Chery Philippines president claimed. 

Dueñas also cited a reason to choose this tall hatch over subcompact sedans:  "It offers more style, more space, more versatility, more comfort, and more features." 

To sweeten the deal, Chery is offering the Tiggo 2 Pro at P818,000 as an introductory price special.

Even when the price gets a bump after the early-bird offer, the carmaker will still thrown in its standard 10-year/one-million-kilometer engine warranty, a five-year/150,000-km general vehicle warranty, free three years preventive maintenance service and roadside assistance. 

All of the above is only a taste of what the Tiggo 2 Pro can offer. Its spec sheet shows what makes the car a tasty product.
