With so many choices, modern-day Ford is a far cry from the days of the old Model T. Henry Ford famously said that the T could come in “any color the customer wants, as long as it’s black.”
However, a study from Ford International Market Group (IMG) found that buyers of the Ranger and Everest have been gravitating towards the more understated, “classic” colors for the Blue Oval’s vehicles.
Ford IMG Color Study: Buyers like it simple
The Everest and Ranger exterior color study from Ford IMG covers Australia, New Zealand, North and South Africa, the Middle East, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
For the Ranger, more than 35 percent of the units sold in the last six months within the aforementioned territories came in shades of white. Specifically, 26.2 percent were Arctic White, while 10.9 percent were Frozen White.
Meteor Grey is the next popular color for the Ford pickup truck at 12.6 percent, followed by Absolute Black at 9.7 percent and Aluminum Metallic at 7.6 percent.
Similarly, white is also the choice for a majority of Everest buyers. Among the model’s recent adoptions, 20.2 percent Snow Flake White, while 14.2 percent opted for Arctic White. The SUV’s Absolute Black, meanwhile, was chosen by 17.9 percent of buyers. Meteor Grey came in at 17.7 percent and Aluminum Metallic at 10.8 percent.
The American car brand did not mention the brighter colors available to both the Ranger and Everest. Specifically, we’re talking about Sedona Orange and Blue Lightning, both available in the countries covered by the study.
Final Word
No exterior color is the wrong color. The said statement applies not just to the Ranger and Everest but to all cars. Exterior styling, including body color, is, after all, a very subjective affair. One color may look strange to some buyers, while others may find it the most attractive.
As per Ford Australia color and materials designer Krista Lindegger, color adds more character to a car.
“Color adds personality to the vehicle and enhances the surface design,” Lindegger said.
So, why all the preference for whites and greys for the Ranger and Everest? Well, Lindegger followed up with a statement that implied the need to keep the vehicle looking spick and span even as wear and tear sets in.
“White is associated with cleanliness and purity, and we know that, anecdotally, white cars tend to hide scratches a little better than other colors and they don’t show dust as easily,” Lindegger added.
