Here are the 3 Changan CS35 Plus' 3 trims
Each trim is well-equipped and suitably peppy
Changan Auto Philippines has brought in the CS35 Plus as its entry into the ever-competitive subcompact crossover segment. In the said market, the model faces the likes of the Geely Coolray.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What are the variants of the Philippine-spec Changan CS35 Plus?
The variants of the Philippine-spec Changan CS35 Plus are the Lite, Hype, and the top-spec Luxe. How much horsepower and torque can the Changan CS35 Plus produce?
The Changan CS35 Plus can produce up to 158 horsepower and 260 Newton-meters of torque. With the said model facing stiff competition, the car brand provided the CS35 with plenty of characteristics that may prove attractive to prospective car buyers. Plus, it was introduced with a reasonably accessible starting price of P1.109 million.
The Changan CS35, however, is sold locally in three different trims: the Lite, Hype, and the top-spec Luxe. So, how do these variants differ from each other? Let us find out.
Changan CS35 Luxe
The Luxe stands as the top-spec option for the nameplate. It is the most expensive trim at the price of P1.259 million, but it also has the most equipment.
On the outside, the said trim gets a pair of sharp-looking automatic LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, power-folding side mirrors, and a power sunroof.
Further enhancing the appearance of the CS35 Plus Luxe is a two-toned (black roof) color scheme, a rear spoiler, a shark fin antenna, and a set of 18-inch alloy wheels.
The interior of the Luxe, meanwhile, gets a wealth of soft-touch surfaces and a leather-upholstered set of seats. Other notable interior features of the said trim include the following:
- Seven-inch digital instrument cluster
- 10-inch touchscreen with Smartphone mirroring
- Wireless smartphone charging pad
- Power tailgate
- 60:40 split-folding rear seats
- Automatic air-conditioning with rear vents
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Six-piece speaker system
- 4-way manual, 2-way power driver’s seat
- Panoramic sunroof
Safety aboard the Luxe is handled by a set of standard features such as anti-lock braking, stability control, hill-descent control, hill-hold control, a 360-degree view camera, ISOFIX, and tire pressure monitoring, among others.
Additional preventive safety bits on the model come in the form of an automatic emergency braking system, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and forward collision assist.
Propelling the Luxe is a 1.4-liter turbocharged mill capable of churning out 158 horsepower (hp) and 260 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. Power is sent to its front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), while braking is handled by front and rear disc brakes.
Changan CS35 Plus Hype
Sitting as the mid-spec trim of the CS35 Plus is the Hype. It is currently available in the local market at a price of P1.209 million.
Exterior-wise, the CS35 Plus carries over almost all of the features found on the top-spec Luxe. The only bit it lacks from its exterior is the sporty two-tone paint job.
Additionally, the mid-spec model’s interior gets the same feature set as the top-spec trim as well. It has the same 7-inch instrument cluster, 10-piece speaker set, leather upholstery, and the same 10-inch infotainment system. The only convenience feature absent on the Hype is the power tailgate.
Like the top-of-the-line Luxe, the Hype also comes with a comprehensive safety kit as well as a forward collision warning system, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.
It also uses the same 1.4-liter engine and seven-speed DCT, and it is also capable of outputting 158 hp and 260 Nm of torque.
Changan CS35 Plus Lite
The most affordable variant of the CS35 Plus is dubbed the lite, and it is sold in the Philippines for P1.109 million.
As hinted by its name, the aforementioned trim of the Changan-made crossover has the leanest feature set out of its variant lineup, but it doesn’t mean that the vehicle is basic.
Its exterior, for starters, is pretty much identical to the mid-spec Hype, save for its smaller set of 17-inch wheels. Plus, it gets a much smaller sunroof compared to the two other trims mentioned above.
The interior of the model, however, ditches the digital gauge for a simpler “Break Code Screen.” Its driver’s seat also lacks power adjustability, while its air-conditioning doesn’t have rear vents. It does keep the same 10-inch infotainment screen, but the Lite only provides a total of four speakers.
Safety-wise, the Lite trim also gets a comprehensive kit, but it only has dual front airbags. It also lacks the 360-degree view camera, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning, which are present on the Hype and Luxe.
Like the other two trims, the Lite uses the same 1.4-liter mill. For the entry-level variant, the said engine also has the same maximum output and transmission type.
Do note, though, that the entry-level Lite has a lighter curb weight of 1,380 kilograms (kg) compared to the Hype and Luxe, which both tip the scale in at around 1,430 kg.
Final thoughts
In summary, the Changan CS35 Plus and its variants have enough features to be described as a daily driver. The Hype and Luxe, in particular, though, do get additional safety and creature comforts, which may help elevate one’s driving experience further.
As mentioned above, the Lite is far from basic, but it may have a less comfortable rear cabin due to its lack of rear air-conditioning vents. Additionally, it doesn’t have advanced driver-assist features, so it may be more suitable for more confident drivers.
For folks who are serious about getting the Changan CS35 Plus, however, it is highly advisable to take the model out for a test drive before jumping the gun. Doing so, after all, will result in a more informed purchase in the end.
