Here are the hits and misses of the Ford Territory

While its latest version was launched just last year, the currently available Territory has no doubt become a very strong nameplate in the Ford Philippines lineup.

To put the said sentiment into perspective, the small five-seater crossover already saw a total of 1,433 units sold in the first three months of 2024. As a result, the Blue Oval’s local arm has expanded its lineup with the new Sport trim. 

With the Territory establishing itself in the local market, many might be eyeing the ride as their next big car purchase. 

So, the question now is: what are the strengths of the Ford Territory? Also, does it have any weaknesses buyers should know about? Let’s find out here. 

Pros

Plenty of onboard tech

For its price range of P1.335 million-P1.625 million, the Territory boasts a lot of onboard technologies. 

Starting with its displays, both the Sport and Titanium X variants are equipped with a notably large 12-inch central infotainment screen and a similarly-sized digital gauge cluster. 

For connectivity, the central infotainment screen comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. It also has voice recognition and is paired with either six or eight speakers, depending on the Territory trim. 

Keeping devices inside the Ford model is likewise made easy, thanks to the presence of a wireless smartphone charger and several USB ports. 

The basic safety kit for the Territory consists of a total of six airbags, anti-lock braking, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-launch assist, hill-descent control, and ISOFIX child seat anchors - among others.

On the Titanium X and Sport variants, the aforementioned are supported by several advanced driver-assist systems, such as the following: 

• Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection
• Lane keeping aid
• Lane departure warning
• Forward collision warning
• Adaptive cruise control (Titanium X, Sport)
• Active park assist
• Blind spot information with cross-traffic alert
• Automatic high beams
• Collision mitigation system

Additionally, stowing the vehicle in tight parking spots is made easier thanks to a 360-degree view monitor, as well as front and rear parking sensors. 

Clean-cut styling

Another strength of the Ford Territory is its exterior styling. In a nutshell, its looks can be described as balanced. It isn’t too modern-looking, but at the same time, it looks sharp and well-proportioned. 

For starters, the model received an assertive front fascia, which was achieved by combining a large grille with very sharply edged LED daytime lamps. The aforementioned are also complemented by the vehicle’s rectangular LED headlamp clusters and the quadrilateral air vent on its lower front bumper. 

More of its tall and stolid SUV-like stance can be viewed from its side. Otherwise, it only uses a minimal amount of black plastic claddings on its side sills and wheel arches. 

The rear of the Territory, on the other hand, looks quiet but elegant. It does get an eye-catching pair of interesting LED taillights and some measure of character lines. But at the same time, it didn’t go overboard in terms of chunkiness. 

Some will also appreciate the hidden exhausts of the current version, which contrasts the dual-tip setup present in the previous generation model. Sure, dual exhausts look sporty, but they tend to look out of place on a vehicle like the Territory.

Cushy cabin

The cabin of the Ford crossover is likewise notable for its abundance of creature comforts. 

For keeping everyone inside the vehicle cool, the model has a dual-zone automatic climate control system with rear vents. 

Everyone inside is also kept cozy by perforated leather seats. The ones on the front come with ventilation. Plus, the rear seat gets a 60:40 split-folding function and a folding center armrest. 

Finding one’s preferred position behind the wheel of the Ford five-seater is a breeze thanks to a power-adjustable driver’s seat and a tilt and telescopic steering column.

Cons

Use of light-colored upholstery

On the Sport and especially on the Titanium X versions, the Territory makes use of light-colored interior upholstery trimmings. 

Visually speaking, having contrasting colors for the cabin is nice. However, light-colored materials have the tendency to get dirty really quickly. 

Final thoughts

Overall, the Territory is a good buy for those wanting a cushy and tech-laden Ford five-seater. It has plenty of safety features, and it has a lot of creature comforts to make the daily drive a lot more bearable. 

It sounds good so far, but serious prospective buyers of the Territory should give it a test drive first. Doing so, after all, will result in a more informed purchase in the end.
